If he is being fired for reading a Bible verse then I like his chances of winning in court on unlawful firing.
It was crazy dumb for sure. Most people have no historical reference for what those words mean in the Bible times and you have to realize that. But not a fireable offense (assuming his contract is half-decent).

Losing 50% of your games is fireable. Not being respected by your team or the school is fireable. Not beign able to recruit is reasonable. I bet they stick with that.

I would love to see Chris Beard go back just for the comedy.

Spitting in a players face is fireable.. along with saying you can do it when feel like it prob is too .

Like UT...Tech is a state school so they can wrap themselves in that sovereign immunity law . that's how they got out of paying Leach.

None of us where there and it sounds like to me he made a questionable statement and then backpedaled and try to say he was quoting the Bible.

If he spit directly on someone purposely. Yes. Done deal.

If he just was yelling and some spittal came flying out inadvertently then no.

I assume the latter. I feel like we would have heard all about it otherwise before now. What it feels like now is a piling-on scenario to get him ready to be fired.

I don't really care either way. I don't find people in Lubbock to be intolerant of well-intentioned scripture reading. Has to be more to it than that.

Imagine being fired for reading a Bible verse! Much more to it though. Starting with unusual wife stuff and then their record.
Heck, I hope they keep him.

He lost last years Team. (Transfers). This isn't about a Bible verse.

Teaff used Bible versus, too. And Drew?

Haha... you're exactly right.. but not to get too political and derail the thread..look at our country the last few years and all the misinformation being spouted as truth...does it look like the ability to critically think exists anymore?

Not in the media or anywhere in Washington.

From ESPN:

According to the school, Adams was encouraging a player to be more receptive to coaching and "referenced Bible verses about workers, teachers, parents, and slaves serving their masters." Adams apologized to the team after he found out the player was upset about the use of the Bible verse, a source told ESPN.
Just so you will know, there was no reference to slaves and masters. This was a conversation between a young player and a coach about servant leadership. ESPN called to get an opinion and this what they came up with.

Looks like Drew will now have another part of the coaching tree in the Big 12 next year.
Goodman is a jerk who is only interested in click. He called Adams and said he was running with the story and asked if he had any comment. Adams gave him comments which he decided not to use.

He's done.

The chatter all year was the players hate playing for him, and the Tech BMDs were unhappy after the issues with his dead brother's wife spilled into the locker room.
I think he is done but not for the reasons you list. The basketball NIL group ran the program not the AD. They went to the AD before conference started and said Adams was too hard on the team. Each player was individually interview. They wouldn't let him coach all year. These NIL guys chose to fly with the team, come to practices and basically oversee the program in many ways. It was disruptive.

The only reason why Adams ever got this job was because the players lobbied on his part.

His "dead brother's wife" is his wife. There is nothing illegal about this and it shows you know little about the situation.

The spitting on the player is way worse than whatever he said.
There was no spitting on a player, ever. In a huddle during a game he was yelling over the crowd and accidently spit on a player. It happens to all of us. That's it. Some within the program decided to make it an issue. Hard to believe, but true.

You are just like most internet jockey's, if this were true he would already have been gone. Take a rumor that isn't true and then post, right, with your comment? The problem with the media and posters today is that if they read it, then it must be true.

I just hope justice is done. I really don't know what happened but this has the appearance of so many other public fiascos based upon heresy & gossip and someone being way to sensitive about what someone said. If it's another woke witch hunt, I'm all for Adams being defended.
We usually disagree but not this time. Adams has had some missteps in her personal life - married his brothers widow -that didn't play well with donors or the public, but the liars and half-truths that came out were unfounded.

1. His son (who played and coaches at TT) is gay. (not true)
2. That he shoved a donor and told him to STFU (not true)
3. That he spit on a player (accidently when talking in a huddle)

and so much more.

NIL money wanted him gone and were on his ass all season. Injuries, young players and the donors kept him from coaching his team this year. Fact.

I hope he leaves and school just buys him out but this sure smells like a witchhunt trying not to pay him like they did Leach.

this conversation was never about color of skin. Player wasn't even upset but once he told some people around him, they took it out of context. It was about servant leadership. Adams explained how he was there to serve the players and he encouraged this young man to serve others as well in leadership.

So, a college basketball player that may have descended from slaves, that may not be a christian, is supposed to understand the biblical context of a bible verse that his coach uses?

I'm going to say no. The onus is on the coach to not use potentially racially sensitive topics, even if they are taken out of context. Poor judgement by that coach...and leaders lose the privilege of being leaders for poor judgement.

I don't tell my my mom and dad about something unless it upset me. And I played for some ass chewing red ass coaches.

You can call the player soft or whatever but it's on the coach to know his players and what buttons to push. That Adolph Rupp way of coaching is long gone.

And those other rumors you posted I never heard of. But something happened at the Maui Tournament in November that started his downfall.

Who amongst us does not have slaves in our lineage?

No clue what really happened but saying something referenced in the Bible referenced slaves, well, that's kind of a major part of the whole story

Players today have agents. They get 20% of the NIL money. Some of the NIL agents are family members. I honestly do not know who he told but my guess is that it was a person who relayed 2nd hand information to a donor.

I doubt you watched Bill Self on the sidelines during the TT game recently. I can barely count on one time how many times he yelled at a player, "What the F*** are you doing?" as they came off the court. Adams never did anything even that bad. Why do you assume that he coaches like Adolph Rupp? That is just a mischaracterization on your part.

Those rumors in Maui? I know it is hard for you to understand because what happened at TT this year could happen at other places. A couple of "insiders" of Tech were on an elevator and said that they over heard some players talking about "not being able to wait to get out of here". There was an assumption it was the team as they won 1 and lost 2 in the tournament. That's it. It was passed on and spread on the boards. Did anyone leave? No, but that is irrelevant. There were other issues. NIL donors, most who knew nothing about basketball, got involved. Adams is too hard on his team. Adams is losing his team. Several came directly Adams and told him to resign. None of them represent the administration or athletic department. They wanted access in exchange for donations. There is way more to this but maybe someday you will read the book and see.

All you have done is read some things and make some assumptions.

But it isn't part of the story. Nothing ever came up as part of the conversation about slavery or slaves. It was about servant leadership.

TT athletics just conducted interviews all players and coaches. When Adams is let go, see if there is any evidence on racism that came out of those interviews. When big donors want someone gone, the athletic department has to find a way to do it, at least at some schools.

I will say this - the young man in question is a talented player but let's just say he has a lot to learn about basketball and life as do a lot of freshman Adams timing was terrible as was his judgment to have that discussion at that time. This was not the first tense discussion between this player and coach. He should have waited until after the season, I think.

When something bad happens to someone you know and love it isn't easy. Plus, when the truth doesn't come out that makes it even harder. I know everyone has the right to an opinion and I respect that. Mark is not without fault, but so much of this is spin and so many things have not been said.

I remember several years ago, Art Briles as fired as was the school President and AD. Several high powered donors quit donating money, at least to the athletic department. I sure hope that has changed but I think there are still challenges with some donors over what happened to Briles. Baylor athletics may be influenced by donors but it isn't run by donors.

UT, A&M and Texas Tech, to name some of the schools, are. You donate $200M to the men's basketball program you get a say in how it is done. I went to an OSU football game several years ago with my wife who is an OSU grad. I was so surprised when T. Boone Pickens has his own pre-game football program. I have never seen a donor have that kind of power and influence but look what he gave OSU.

NIL is changing things. The opportunity for power, access and influence has increased. TT will make changes to how it is run and operated next year, but in many, many ways Mark Adams is the scapegoat. TT can' allow deep-pocket donors to quit donating money.

Mark has coached young men for decades. He was an assistant to the TT team that went to the national championship game 3 or 4 years ago. He developed a defense that other schools have replicated like Baylor (although we sure haven't done well with it this year). He has been interviewed by multiple NBA teams for his knowledge on defense. As head coach, he took the team to a sweet 16 in his first year. He actually believed this year's team had more potential.

I realize it is probably hard for people to see how NIL could cause such chaos like this but I think TT is an example of what can happen. I doubt it will be the last.

He was never a long term fit .and I said it when they hired him .I was shocked they didn't do a national search when Beard left.

Another hire that blew up in Kirby's face like the women's tennis, softball, and basketball coaches all being let go for player abuse and his poor football decisions until McGuire.
