So I guess Baylor's average attendance will go down by at least 2000 next season?

The average is skewed by games against Kansas and Texas. Last time I checked, there was no award for having the highest average attendance. And telling recruits that you sell out a certain % of home games is better for recruiting than your avg. attendance.

Time to start the new arena expansion money raising campaign.

And we still won't sell out vs Tarleton State.

Think 8k would have been perfect balance to accommodate big games while getting good looking crowds for mid week Ooc. A little too small in my view but not the end of the world I guess

Still a little strange imo. Seems they missed the sweet spot. This year we weren't even top 10 for most of those games and still hit that easily.

Tickets sold..actual butts for some of those games at least 2000 lower..but our problem isn't attendance..it's getting the people in there to know when to get up and get loud like knowledgeable fans like Lawrence and Ames.

Never going to happen.

Yep. The weird thing is that, depending on the angle, the construction photos posted so far make it look like everything from a 3,000 seat arena to a full size 7,000 to 7,5000 arena. Of course, that is due to the angle, lack of actual seating, additional build-out, etc. I've always said 7 to 8 thousand was probably our bread-and-butter. Sure, we could sell a lot more for a KU game or maybe a few others, but for the bulk of the season the 7 to 8 would be just fine. I don't think we'll ever solve for the issue of the sold tickets vs. actual attendance numbers. If a national championship didn't do it, then I think it pretty much is what it is.

Keeping it real here .if Art Briles or Kim Mulkey coaches the men's team wed get 15k every night .

As great of a person and coach Scott Drew is..his personality will never resonate with Joe Waco..Matt Rhule could've won a national championship and he'd still be called a carpetbagger on these boards

Waco wants the good ole boy..or girl..

That's where I thought we should've landed capacity wise - with potential SRO accommodation for 500-1000 more for the bigger games. I was always onboard with downsizing but felt a 30% reduction was too drastic and the ticket sales in recent years justify that. Anyway, we did what we did, so moot point.

It's all just so much handwringing and (IMO) needless fretting until we actually see the effect on gamedays. It could well be that the atmosphere in there is so energetic and loud compared to Ferrell on gamedays with 100% capacity and small visiting contingents in every big game that we forget all about the reduced seating by this time next year.

I'm personally excited we're going more toward the Gonzaga model than the traditional arena approach. But again, I suspect when we've had a season or two there under our belts, much of the handwringing will be confined to the corners of our fan base that's discontent with everything anyway.

Our attendance this year in hoops was WAY WAY better than I can ever remember. In any year. I don't have the numbers to back it up but a lot of people deserve praise for us not having basically any game (minus Tues night non cons against the SWAC) broke azz crowds.

It's an average. It is no more skewed by the Kansas game that it is the lowest attended non conference game. Average means u add up all tickets sold for all games and divide by the total number of games. There are other statistical numbers that might contribute to the picture, median number etc. Or re average
After dropping highest two games and lowest 2 games. But the average is the average. The point of the new facility is to make tickets scarce, create demand, raise ticket prices, increase energy in the room. It's all about $$$.

Does anybody know whether Baylor throws in free basketball tickets for certain levels of football season ticket holders? I think UT did (may still do) that. Kinda explains how the crowds were usually top-heavy at the Erwin Center, especially during weekeday games.

Every Saturday conference game was a sellout when school was in session. Tech, Hogs, etc
When was the last time you went to a game?

Ha. No.

The opener (usually a morning tipoff against a SWAC team) is the only exception - giving a number of tix to schools/youth

I think the debate has always been that ticket sales are much higher than actual attendance, so we rarely have a homecourt advantage. The general feeling is that the ticket price increases will recoup any funds lost from downsizing the total capacity (and reducing ticket sales volume) and there would be a higher probability of butts in seats with higher ticket prices. I understand Drew was a heavy proponent of this.

I understand that reasoning but I don't think it follows the rules of basic economics, especially supply & demand. Reducing the supply will raise prices but won't increase demand. It may even reduce it. They probably did some studies & analyses to figure out the ideal number of seats. No doubt the powers that be will be satisfied. Personally, I don't know if I will be able to attend any games at Foster.

So all these numbers north of the new arena size, you've just thrown away the ticket price, the parking, and all the concessions for those people. What does that add up to?
