Such honors should always be based on a life-long body of work and contributions. If we're talking only wins and success in athletics here, a point could be made for a statue. If we're dealing in relationships and contributions to the growth, health and effectiveness of the university, then a statue is out of the question. The point is to give a deserved honor and not to create an idol. In comparing any contributor to BU for such an honor with Drew's contributions and character is a great place to start. I was interested in seeing whether Mulkey would grow or just swell with her move to The Boot: we have our answer. I am grateful to Mulkey for her work at Baylor and for her solidifying the WBB program and respect for the university therein. But that is history and done, and should be relegated to memory and record books and not to an idol.
