It is. Just crazy. He switched everybody, and still an issue.
People said Drew would get fixed last year. And it didn't happen. I'm a bit worried. The one positive I see is that this group of guards is more willing to play D. Just having issues.

Is Drew not the coach? I'm a giant fan of Drew. But it's silly to excuse him in regards to this teams woeful defense.

Nunn and Dennis both have 6'7" + wingspans. There literally is no excuse to be this poor on D. Dennis is semi slow footed but not even close to worst defender.
Sampson is coaching a really solid defense with literally one plus athlete at guard. It's a coaching issue at this point

Lots of green lighting during timeouts. The crowd noise is elevated but not a problem. The music during timeouts has the bass cranked way up; it's like being stuck in a traffic jam between 2 Dodge challengers and a tricked-out Honda Civic. Ear-splitting and headache-inducing.
Turn on ESPN and watch Duke. That camera is nowhere near this.

In 20 seasons he has always improved the team as the season went on.
To blame Drew means you either think he does not know how to teach defense, or doesn't want to do it, either of which is so stupid as to defy belief that a Baylor fan would post it.
Sometimes the problem is chemistry, and sometimes it's players who don't listen to the coach. But Drew has certainly earned our trust, actually did so long ago.
Ok. I can see that. When u saw Nunn he didn't look 6'4. I think the 6'7 wingspan is a bit off. I'm 6'2.5 and he didn't look 6'4 at all.

We're almost halfway through the season. Defense isn't going to magically get better by playing more games. Statistically, we are what we are -- a team that will need to win with superior offense. May as well accept that and save yourself a lot of indigestion.
I think they all exaggerate but that is what's reported and with every roster exaggerating it's safe to say they are decent size compared to the avg. They claim only Grimes has a sub 6'5" wingspan.
But point is look at Houston. Tiny backcourt, not especially athletic outside of pg but just really sound, aggressive, and focused. They would not be good under this system right now.

The problem I see is no one protects the rim.
Defense played 35 games last year and were horrible from start to finish. We've played 13 this year and are only slightly better (not saying much)
If anyone needs to "get real" here it's you. No where did I say Drew can't coach. But to dismiss him here is silly.

Seriously, do we have anybody that can stop a dribble drive to the rim?
The problem is that it's a No Middle D, which is great if you have guards who don't get beaten off the dribble easily. Unfortunately, we don't have a guard who can play a lick of D.

Great news is that our offense is so good, we're almost winning by 20. We can pound, shorter inferior teams easily. It's bigger, faster, stronger, quicker teams that will give us all kinds of problems on D and if we have an off night shooting, we're toast.

We all agree the team needs to improve on defense, but blaming the one man in the building who knows more about defense than anyone in this forum was and is stupid.
There are a number of reasons why we are struggling to defend well. You wanna give up on Drew, go ahead. But History suggests you will look even more dumb for doing so.

If we play D like this against BYU next Tuesday and don't shoot 50% or more from 3, could be a long night. They are a bunch of grown ass men who play physical and can also shoot the lights out.
Luckily, there are no more 11-day layoffs the rest of the way.

To be fair, Iowa has a point: as head coach Drew is ultimately responsible for the entire team production. I'm willing to cut him some slack because he's Coach Drew and we don't know what is going on behind the scenes. It's possible there are issues beyond his control.
