New rankings came out on 247. VJ is now number 4 overall ahead of Tre Johnson. I believe he's better all around. More of a team guy. Seen Tre play, really talented, but relies heavy on iso ball. Who do you guys think is better? I may be biased, but I definitely lean VJ.

At that level, it's which one plays better defense. Is VJ more athletic than Tre? Haven't seen enough of either to make that determination.

Some draft notes on VJ

Edgecombe is an elite level prospect. A big 6-6 wing with broad shoulders, wiry and smooth athleticism and big time ability. The way he moves on the court is special. He easily passes the eye test and looks like a future superstar on the court.
Edgecombe has a really nice blend of driving ability and shot-making. He's got a smooth release on his jumper and is a high level 3pt shooter. He's a force going to the basket, gliding to the hoop and showing off his hops and hang-time.
He's also a standout defender who has great hands, great timing, gets a lot of steals and his a high level shot blocker for a guard/wing.
Needs to improve his ball-handling ability and continue to refine his game but as all the tools to be special.

An elite talent. Tre Johnson is a future lottery pick and easily one of the best players in his class.
The long 6-5 guard is an unstoppable scorer who can get buckets on anyone. He's exceptionally quick, has great handles, plays with rhythm and pace and can break down defenders at will.
Johnson is a shot-maker through and through. He can get hot from deep, has a spicy mid range game and just knows how to put the ball in the basket.
While he might not be a freak athlete he's got bounce and speed and can play through contact.
The sky is the limit.

Vj is one of the most athletic players in this class so Vj. Will probably be the best raw athlete in the big 12 next year. Just needs to continue to develop offensive skills and feel.

Worth noting that Rob Wright has been moving up as well. He's a Top 25 national player in both 247 and ESPN.

I wanted Edgecombe more. Johnson is great but Edgecombe brings the entire package and is explosive. I want to see him and Love on the floor at the same time. Those are two dawgs that will cause all kinds of problems for other teams.

"VJ committed to Baylor, so I think he's definitely a more selfless, team first guy. Tre Johnson committed to Texas, so he's much more about himself and a narcissist." I know that's an exaggeration of this post, but I just love message boards. (His take about Tre having a more iso game and not playing within a system as much may be totally valid, I'm just laughing at the way this comes off).

lol. I get you. But if you watch Link Academy play, I think you'll know what I mean.

I think they're both really good and while I would have loved to have both, I'm glad we at least got one!

Seen Harper play a couple of times. He is a man amongst boys. He has all the physical traits that will make him a one and done.

An ESPN write up posted today:

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/39368689/2024-men-college-basketball-recruiting-class-rankings

4. Baylor Bears

Top recruit: V.J. Edgecombe (No. 4)

Drew made the biggest recruiting splash of the winter by beating out Duke and Kentucky for top-five prospect Edgecombe, the highest-ranked uncommitted senior in the country at the time. Edgecombe was the Bears' highest-ranked commitment since Isaiah Austin in the 2012 class, and he's a player who will step in immediately for projected lottery pick Ja'Kobe Walter as a high-level scorer. Drew was already bringing in two other high-level perimeter prospects in Robert Wright III (No. 25) -- a true point guard who will have the ball in his hands from day one -- and Jason Asemota (No. 44). Baylor will also welcome 7-foot junior college transfer Noah Boyed.

I want to get through this season first but next season is looking good. Hopefully, these new recruits will be fully ready for the rigors of Big 12 play by the time it starts. It is a real gauntlet as our current team is discovering.

VJ is the most athletic player in this class. See the dunk from the game last night for evidence.

The fact they lead with saying he is 6'6" makes me question anything else that is written. VJ is closer to 6'4", is lite athletically, has a smooth, efficient shot from 3, shows plus to elite vision and passing skills. Defensively he get caught up in watching like a spectator, but has a lot of positive traits when being a willing defender.
