If Texas can just play to about 80 % of their talent level they can win this .

Tex getting great looks and can't hit a thing. I know our defense wasn't good but they were out of their mind.

This is a terrible basketball game.

Houston isn't full of uber talented guys but they are stacked with tough kids who get after it. They're not that pleasant to watch for most in a world that has become AAU driven, but I really enjoy watching them. It will be interesting to see how the game is called in Lawrence Saturday and how UH adjusts.

Houston has a team of really good college players. I would take Sharp and Shead on my team any day.

I'm a little biased against Cryer because of how lazy he was on our roster. But he's really good at what he does, too.

Greenberg needs to chill. Our guards from 2021 would absolutely maul Houston. Terrible matchup for them

There's no team in America with Baylor's 2021 guards this year. Or most years for that matter.

But everything's relative. And Houston's backcourt is as good as any in the country this year.

Shead is one of my 5 favorite non-Baylor players in the conference.

You can't force character and I still remember him stopping to pick up the trash after the coaching staff and other players kicked it over after losing a close one at Alabama. And since then he has busted his hump each year to get better and better.

Uh is an especially terrible matchup. Their scheme falls completely apart against skilled tough guards. We would run them off the floor badly. Davion would maul Shead. Not to mention Butler is better than all of them too.

Greenberg usually knows ball but that was just disrespectful.

I didn't take it that way. I think comparisons like that are generally made in relation to a team's contemporaries/peers. And in a year where there are no great teams, Houston's backcourt may be as big a strength for them as ours was for us in 2021.

Time will tell obviously. But this Houston team looks like a title contender to me. They, like every other team in the country this year, would get whipped by our 2021 squad. But they won't have to worry about facing them in March.

ESPN's promo just hyped Houston-Kansas as a rivalry game. The teams have played seven times since 1950.

KU is charmin soft much like BU. Won't be surprised at all to see a Houston win handily Saturday. Then again the zebras might have a say. Teams with elite guards will be Houston's downfall in March. Much like last year. Saw that Miami upset coming a mile away.

Possible but I think he said "who would you take " or something like that. I don't usually care what random dude is saying but that was wild. Greenberg knows better.

Okay I'm good now

But how many of those teams are there this year?

That's fair. I would definitely take our 2021 group. But I'd be happy with a group of guards like theirs pretty much any year, too.

What's frustrating is I thought early this season that we might have one. Unfortunately, Nunn's gone AWOL since our schedule toughened up and Walter -- as is often the case with freshmen -- is really inconsistent.

Teams built like Miami? Not many, that group of guards was criminally underrated. But teams like UConn, Creighton, UnC among others can absolutely beat this Houston team.

Dillon Mitchell isn't a great basketball player yet, but that guy is a scary athlete.

I'm not saying they couldn't. Anybody can lose in March.

But this Houston team is better equipped to avoid the ambush blowout than teams past IMO because it has more skill at the guard position.

Even against TCU and Iowa State, two very good teams, they had opportunities to win those games late on the road.

I know you were calling that one last year. I watched for that and you were right. They got any look they wanted and took advantage of the over aggression

This game is heating up. Texas finally found some offensive rhythm.

Houston plays really hard. They make a lot of hustle plays to extend their own possessions and end their opponent's.

Houston is the last leg of a pretty good $$ payout. Safe to say I'm rooting for the Coogs

The parity in the XII is incredible. I'm not sure there is a best team they are all so close.

There will eventually be some separation. But there are four or five really good ones and a bunch of teams below that group that aren't too far behind.

The fact that teams like Texas, BYU and Cincinnati have losing conference records tells you how good this league is. Those teams would be top four or five teams in the PAC-12 and Big Ten.

I'm sure I'm just being hypercritical in my mind but every team in the Big 12 looks quicker than us to me, other than maybe Nunn who just looks like his speed is wasted due to lack of control.

Other than Dennis, who is more crafty than quick, and Little, who is a pretty mediocre athlete by Big 12 standards, I think our guards are pretty quick. I don't think they have good defensive instincts and they play hesitant on that end because of all the switching, but I don't feel like we're really at an athleticism deficit.

Texas has caught fire. Houston had better make a run soon to quiet this UT crowd or they're going to be in trouble. The crowd is becoming a factor.
DanaDane
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think Walter, Dennis, Love and certainly not Little are very quick at all compared to most other guards (I consider our "3"s as guards) in the Big 12, and not just on D. I think that's one of the reasons our ball movement on offense stagnates at times. It's not that they are slow, slow. It's just they are a half step slower than a lot of other guards in the conference. Nunn is as quick as any guard in the Big 12, it's just not under control 75% of the time.

UH gets more tip out rebounds than anyone I've seen. Another example of hard nosed want to and not giving up even if shorter than others under the rim.

We've had teams that did that well in the past. That was the one thing Flo Thamba was actually really good at.

9 total free throws shot in this game.

They're letting them play. Thank goodness.

Agree. Flo and Vital were both excellent at knocked it back out to our guards.

They are, but I don't feel like it's gotten too physical. College basketball has done a pretty good job of cleaning up a lot of the contact. It used to be like watching a high school girls game.
