Nice find.

Worst case - If BU loses on Saturday and BYU, Tech and KU all win out, that would drop us down to a 5 seed and we would miss the big bye.

However, if KU loses at UH then we are guaranteed a Top 4 seed and bye.

Best case - Can still get as high as a 2 seed if we win and ISU takes 2 L's.

I expect the top 3 seeds to win Saturday and retain their current standings heading to KC. After that, with BYU & TCU winning their games, there will be a 4 way tie at 10-8 between those two, Kansas, & Tech. Tech has the head to head over both Kansas & BYU but split their series with the Frogs. The link above puts them at a 4 seed & TCU at a 7.

Then I could be wrong and there could be considerable chaos Saturday.

Looks mostly like

3 seed - Baylor beats Tech AND/OR Houston beats Kansas

4 seed - Baylor loses to Tech AND Kansas beats Houston

I don't see a scenario where we drop below 4.

This is correct.

The KU @ UH game tips at 3pm, so we may already be locked in as a 3 seed in KC as the Tech game tips off.

Only way we are a 4 seed is if we lose and KU upsets UH. Then Tech gets the 3 seed.

Either way, our double bye is secured.

Kansas without a bye in the Big 12 Tournament? Does the Book of Daniel reference this?

Technically they still have a bye. Teams seeded 10th or higher get a bye

Yes, but they play Wednesday, and will need to win 4 games in 4 days to win the tourney. There is trembling of the earth, gnashing of teeth in Rock Chaulk.

They'd be smart to sit KM but I bet Self plays him.
Hates losing too much even though he's the key to them doing anything in the dance

I wasn't a fan of the Big 12 tournament and am even less so now.
  • Permanent home game for Kansas Schools
  • Meaningless for teams already locked in the NCAA. Teams on the edge or teams playing for a 1 seed, maybe, but try to convince 19-year-olds how great it would be to get from a 5 seed to a 4.
  • Tournament is just a means of the Conference taking in another $50mm. Players are stuck in their Hotels, and for many, do not want to be there. I know someone who stayed in the same Hotel as some of the teams, said if the elevator opened on a team floor, you were getting a contact high from the elevator.
  • Always thought the playing a game every day, with the finals being two teams playing their third straight game, is asking them to do something they never do in regular season or in the NCAAs. Now, the double bye is designed to kill the Cinderella: an 11 seed that catches fire would have to play 5 games in five days.

It's single bye vs double bye.

I'm curious as to what it will look like next with 16 teams. Probably very similar with the extra four teams playing in the first second round.

With 16 teams wouldn't it be 1 vs. 16, 2 vs, 15, etc.?

I think they give (at least) the top 4 seeds a bye as a reward...

That's what I would expect but will there be bye's? With 16 it shouldn't be necessary but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

4 byes, leaving you 12 teams playing 6 in first round, leaves you 10 teams in the quarterfinals.
Simplest way is four rounds, no byes. I would like to see something like this;
Round 1 Tuesday
#1 vs #16
#2 vs #15
#8 vs. #9
#7 vs. #10

Round 1 second day, Wednesday
#3 vs. #14
#4 vs. #13
#5 vs. #12
#6 vs #11

Round 2 Thursday
1/16 vs 8/9
2/15 vs 7/10
Round 2 second day, Friday
3/14 vs 6/11
4/13 vs 5/12

Saturday Semifinals
Sunday Finals

This at least gives teams a day of rest in the first two rounds. Not happening because TV is full up on Sunday.

Great idea which is why it probably won't happen. As for the problem with Sunday, postpone the Finals until Monday. The teams could probably use another day of rest. It works for MM.
