Because people expect us to be good every year. And we didn't do anything spectacular in the regular season. We still have a chance to do something special in March, and I hope we do, but I think this list is a pretty good list.TXBEAR_bf said:
Don't understand how Drew is not in consideration with 4 new starters and basically zero bench with top 10 team.
Can't stand TJ, just think he is a massive ******, but their D is solid and they play hard, but they played no one pre conference.

If that is the reason then why is Hurley top of the list?
Because UConn has lived up to any reasonable expectation anyone could have for them, which is saying a lot considering they're in the process of defending a national title. Baylor hasn't been nearly as good as UConn has this year.TXBEAR_bf said:

I'm more bullish on this Baylor team than I've been at any point since December. We're playing our best basketball at the right time. Let's keep it going and make a run in the tournament.historian said:
We haven't been that good since our natty. That said, it's quite possible that UConn will exit the tournament in the round of 32, although I don't expect it.
This year's team does seem like the best we have had since 2020 and seem to be peaking now. We have reasons to be optimistic this month.
Sic 'em Bears!!!

We haven't underperformed. But we haven't overperformed either. We had a good regular season, not an exceptional one. That's not going to earn you a national coach of the year mention. That won't even earn you conference coach of the year consideration.TXBEAR_bf said:
Not arguing that Dew should be one, but should be on the list. Not sure how we have underperformed? Again, we replaced 4 starters, that's a big deal, I can't remember % of scoring it amounts to, but have to think 80 percent plus. Tourney results do matter on perception. If we fall flat this year in the tourney with a 2 or 3 seed that will not look great for overall reputation.
There's a difference when you're one of the top-three teams in the country. Those coaches are going to get recognized for coaching one of the best teams in the country -- with our without overachieving.TXBEAR_bf said:
Fair, we were 17 preseason, based on Jakobe and transfers coming in. UConn was preseason 5 and are 2 or 3 in polls, so not sure that would be warranted either. I think that was the point I was trying to make, do you just not get mentioned when you are supposed to be good and perform at expectations? In this case it would appear that Drew and Hurley are doing a similar type job from an expectation stand point. Hurley is considered a great coach by almost everyone. Drew maybe by some that follow the game closely, but not as broadly nationally. Obviously the Hurley name is big in the NE. I just think Drew has been slightly nationally when he did the rebuilding job and now it's "expected" that we are top 20. The consistency is worth something in my book, not just when you are supposed to be horrible and outperform, but when you are basically starting from scratch like we are this year. I'll let it lie, not a hill to die on. I would like to see Drew recognized more by national media, other than Fran's constant plug of the rebuilding job he has done.
