Iowa State played really well in KC, as they typically do. When they shoot the way they did in their last two games, they're really hard to beat because they always defend well.

Why does another team getting their ass ran out of the gym make you feel better about us getting our ass ran out of the gym?

This is their Disneyland vacation they save up for every year...they can't win a regular season championship but they really get a hardon for KC.

I don't feel better. ISU played lights out this week. Good for them. But others will play lights out next week as well. Honestly, we showed how we are inconsistent as a team. We are good, but we are not elite this year. How far we get in the Dance will depend largely on who we play.

I was wondering the same.

My question is are there any "Lottery picks" or "one'n done" guys on Iowa St roster? Two Seniors in the starting lineup and the shooters are under class guys.

We can't really have continuity with guys leaving. Drew needs to find a strong defensive asst coach as well. Walter, in conference, has been a non factor. He needs more time, but the NBA + $$$$ will probably be too much to pass on. This team won't last long in the Tourney.

ISU's roster makeup is a good model to follow. Baylor has the opportunity to get even better recruits within that model. When TJ put this roster together last year they weren't as good but look at them now in Year 2. Your key players need to be in at least their second year with the program. ISU has that, basically have only played 1 new player this year. Transfers should have at least 2 years of eligibility left unless for a very specific role or need due to injury. 1& Done's (which ISU will not see very many if at all) should be a luxury to have and augment your core. Next years group only has VJ who fits that profile with the other 3 getting multiple years in the program to contribute. You also need projects. Kelvin Sampson described Lath as a 5 semester guy meaning he didn't really think he'd contribute until his 3rd year in the program, but now due to injury he's playing. Portal opens tomorrow for players not in any of the post season tournaments. Very curious to see who jumps in there..

This model is much easier said than done, for a few reasons.

One aspect that is never mentioned in the endless one-and-done debate is that we forget these coaches begin forming relationships with these kids as early as 7th or 8th grade. Do you think our coaches have a crystal ball at that age to say, "nope, sorry, this kid might be too good for us to recruit and *might* be a one-and-done 5 years from now....so I'll pass."

Also, regarding projects. The bust rate is much higher on projects than the success rate. We have selective memory and celebrate when a project becomes a viable rotation player because it's human nature to root for the underog. But just look at our roster over the past several years. For every Lath there is 10 of a Jordan Turner, Loveday, Grimes, and others sucking up roster spots but never became the rotation players we needed them to. The transfer portal has also changed the mindset of these kids and few are willing to come in and redshirt and develop over a 2 or 3 year period like the days of Ish Wainwright and Taurean Prince. They will hit the transfer portal.

We might be fortunate and hit the sweet spot with Wright next year. He is an NBA talent I think, but lacks the NBA measurables. So we might keep him around 2 or 3 years which would be great.

Great take . I think we're in a good place, as Nunn, Miro, Love, and Josh will be back. We caught lightning in a bottle 2 times in the last 3 years with Sochan and Missi progressing so fast they were draft worthy. Jury is out if Wright and Assemoto will do the same. I'm curious what Ndjonga will bring coming back from injury, or Adegbola from redshirt but at least they will have a year in the program to grow and learn. Who knew Ndjonga was Joel Embiid's cousin?

I don't understand and can't articulate the analytics, but I am not depressed today like I was yesterday.
