Kentucky is one of those teams that relies pretty heavily on very talented freshman who seem to pretty consistently lose to teams with solid juniors and seniors in the tournament. Here's hoping Baylor recruits more tough high 3 and 4 star players who believe in the culture, play good defense, and are going to stick around for three to four years rather than relying too much on the 5 star one and dones. It's nice to get one or two highly prized recruits with a good attitude but I think you're going to advance farther in the tourney with good players sticking around. Missi has been great to watch this year though.

Guys 3 seed Kentucky goes down! Bears are a 3 seed!

Trivia: when was the last time (2) 3 seeds lost in the first round and who were the teams?

I think we only expected Jakobe to leave this year but Missi has BALLED out, which is obviously a good thing but sucks to lose him

At least Miro Little should be around for a while

I looked it up:

- 2018 & 2019 the Michigan teams made it to the FF
- ditto for 2013 & 2015
- 2012 was the last time anyone else made it there

In 2013 & 2018 Michigan was runner up. That's as far as any of them have gotten in the past few years. One has to go back quite a few years to see anything close to what the Big 12 has done most recently. The Big East has a better record in that span!

They have zero natty's this century (Sparty won it in 2000, the last year of the 20th century)

Love it! I celebrated the millennium in 2001 as well :-)

I wanted to do it in a special way: I was in Vienna to start the millennium.

Gohlke just hit his 10th triple. They're face guarding him.

Win or lose, this Division II transfer will be telling his grandkids and great grandkids about this game.
Just watched the Oakland/Kentucky highlights, there were a couple open threes for Gohlke but most were very contested.

Just a reminder Seth Davis said on the selection show on national tv that the two big upsets he was almost sure would happen included Mcneese State over Gonzaga and Samford over Kansas and that was even before it was announced that McCullar was out for the tournament. And that was just before he said New Mexico would cruise to the Sweet 16 which means he thinks Baylor loses to either Colgate or New Mexico.

He was wrong about Gonzaga and probably is about Kansas. I'd seat he's a three-fer.

I'm glad a 3 seed lost today so we get that out of the way before tomorrow.

Bad thing is, before today the previous four times a 3 seed lost in the first round involved a Big 12 team (we were one of them). That's why I hated this seed, but thanks to Kentucky for possibly breaking the jinx.

So far feel justified with NC st cruising. I've been extremely low on Tech all year. Credit for maximizing every ounce of ability, but completely mediocre everywhere.

Tech looks like crap tonight. They're taking bad shots and can't guard NC State inside.

But the Wolfpack are playing really well right now. That's a confident team playing well together.

That spin move of his is awesome. He's really quick for a guy that big.

Watching him reminded me of former TCU big man Eddie Lampkin. For some reason, I didn't realize he's at Colorado now. I look forward to watching him tomorrow.

I love old school, back-to-the-basket post play.

Former Villanova coach Jay Wright:

"The era of taking these young freshmen and trying to play against older players is over. I think he did a phenomenal job with these guys all year. You can see, they're playing against grown men. The guys on Kentucky will be far better pros than any of these guys on Oakland or any of these guys in the tournament. But they're not as good college basketball players. At this point in their careers, they're not as disciplined yet as the guys for Oakland. It's not Cal's fault. It's they're 18 years old and they're in this era where everyone is telling them how great they are. Just show up in college and you're going to win. It doesn't happen that way. And the more guys stay in college because of NIL, it's going to be tougher for young teams like this to be successful."

Samford is hanging just around the periphery of being in this game. If they can make a run, they might get back into this one.
bear2be2
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Samford has it back within 10 with nine minutes left. Their 3s are falling. If they can get this down to five or six, Kansas will start feeling some serious pressure.

This NC State team is just on fire. Won 5 in a row in ACC tourney including wins over Duke and UNC.
