That's 16 games....and we were the one outlier. Damn it.
Both were here in 2021, when both our football and men's basketball programs reached previously unprecedented heights. Blaming either for our consistent inability to make the second weekend with top three seeds is silly.Fre3dombear said:

Money line favorites go 15-1 in 2nd round. Only favorite to lose outright was Baylor.

Every 1 and 2 reach Sweet 16, as do 10 of the top 12 seeds (no Baylor or Kentucky).

Spoiled and overreacting, someone posted a list on a different thread about all of the March legends who have struggled in the tournament over time
It's a privilege to be in March so thank you Scott and the Foster boys for another great season filled with awesome memories
12 of the 16 top seeds have made the sweet 16.

The ones who didn’t were coached by John Calipari, Bill Self, Bruce Pearl, and Scott Drew.
On the eve of the NCAA Tournament, 13 of the Sweet Sixteen teams ranked in the top-16 of the @kenpomeroy ratings. Another massive W for analytics. pic.twitter.com/5EIMRnyKRr

That's like being a farmer who signs a lease with an oil company that hits a gusher 13 of the 16 wells it drills, but yours is a dry hole.boognish_bear said:On the eve of the NCAA Tournament, 13 of the Sweet Sixteen teams ranked in the top-16 of the @kenpomeroy ratings. Unfortunately, this was pretty predictable. There were a lot of signs that this Baylor team was better on paper than it was on the court.whitetrash said:That's like being a farmer who signs a lease with an oil company that hits a gusher 13 of the 16 wells it drills, but yours is a dry hole.boognish_bear said:On the eve of the NCAA Tournament, 13 of the Sweet Sixteen teams ranked in the top-16 of the @kenpomeroy ratings. They had little to nothing to do with this either, and you're the one talking about "curses."Fre3dombear said:bear2be2 said:Both were here in 2021, when both our football and men's basketball programs reached previously unprecedented heights. What went wrong was a Langston Love injury middle of the season. The team that lost on Saturday was the same team we've had for months now. Nothing really changed, these guys just weren't that good.CST Bear said:
So...what went wrong? I'd say it was a perfect storm that sealed our fate.
Langston injury
Missi injury
Bridges injury?
Woeful shooting from the perimeter, sloppy and ineffective in getting to the hoop and finishing through the first 34 minutes.
Mediocre D (a constant in 2024)
And finally...
Dreadful and untimely foul shooting.
As frustrating of a tourney loss as we've ever seen (with exception of Ga State). I know it's wishful thinking to simply get a team to March healthy but damn...we seem overdue for this!
