Thought some might be interested…

Unlike last year, there wasn't a clear-cut MVP of the practice sessions, but several players stood out.

The first prospect that comes to mind is Edgecombe, a Baylor commit. The 6-foot-5 guard has shades of Victor Oladipo, but if he continues to improve his jumper he could be Donovan Mitchell-like. Over the two practice sessions, he showcased his playmaking skills. His ability to read defenses in the pick-and-roll isn't talked about enough, and he showed flashes of being a lead guard.

We know he's typically the most athletic prospect in most gyms, but Edgecombe has started to become more of a complete basketball player. Over the past five years, Baylor has consistently churned out top-tier guards, with the last two years seeing them produce two Big 12 Rookies of the Year in Keyonte George and Ja'Kobe Walter. Edgecombe will complete the set.

I think he could dunk even if the rim was moved to 11 feet.

Miller was a good, skilled basketball player. He was just immature and coming off a serious knee injury his only year on campus.

Deuce Bello looked like he didn't practice anything but dunking for his first 18 years on earth. He was devoid of any useful basketball skill.

Agree that Deuce had amazing verticality but had no real game aside from that--Analogy to that is Acy and Vitals, who showed great athleticism as Freshman but were largely undeveloped in other aspects of their game. They ended their Baylor career as top-level college basketball players. Not everyone puts in the time and effort.

VJ Edgecombe is possibly the most complete guard, athletically, offensively, defensively we have ever had. He is that level of talent you expect to end up at a Kansas or Duke. He is a good ball handler, is not a volume shooter, but looks to get shots for his teammates, likes to play defense, has a quiet competitive Moxy that reminds me of some of the better guards in the NBA past. That said, he is in no way 6-6 as some reports list (I would wager closer to 6-4). An open question is how he will handle the physicality of the Big 12. VJ and Robert Wright bring a lot of speed, which will be fun to watch at times. They will be freshman and the conference is a tough place to learn from at 19. Absent some top talent coming in by transfer, it is my view that we should look at this coming season as a rebuilding year.

I can assure you we will be active in the portal. In the transfer portal era, every season is a rebuild.
