Think about this...

If SD leaves, our most tenured head coach in the four biggest sports.... Dave Aranda.

Mack has been horrendous.

Y'all are so desperate to hate on Mack that you've got to cite to CSD ~possibly~ leaving for one of the top two or three most coveted jobs in the country. If Drew leaves for UK it has very little to do with Mack/Baylor and everything to do with UK being UK.

And the whole we didn't have a buyout on our national champion winning coach that keeps the Kentucky's of the world away part.

If Kentucky had to pay 15-20 million to get Drew, then yeah, Mack could avoid real criticism, but we're not by all accounts.

You and I both know that 15-20 million wouldn't stop Kentucky from getting their guy.

It sure sounds like it stopped them from going after Nate Oats. $33 million stopped them from dumping Cal.

Either way that's the level of buyout that should be on Drew, it's not there and that's on our AD who's signed multiple contracts with Drew at this point.

You can only sign someone to a contract they agree to, and Mack has no leverage in a negotiation with Drew. If Drew wants a small buyout, he gets a small buyout. Period.

That is exactly how a negotiation would go with someone bad at their job.

Cmon man, no AD will be blamed for any coach choosing Kentucky, as long as the AD attempts everything reasonable to keep him. I think Mack will be judged by how he handles finding a replacement more so than losing out to Kentucky.

Someone bad at their job would try to play hardball with a highly successful, highly sought after coach and potentially piss him off unnecessarily.

The fact that we've kept poachers at bay for 21 years with a heretofore unknown buyout on Drew's contract proves the point everyone here is making. Losing Drew to Kentucky (if we do) will have far more to do with Kentucky than Baylor.

There are plenty of valid reasons to criticize Rhoades, if that's your desire. This isn't one of them.

No. You don't get it. The IvanBears of the world live in a fantasy land where everything they want to happen should have already happened. Quit your logical takes. This is no time for logic.

IvanBear, on the "buyout that keeps the Kentuckys of the world away," there is no keeping the Kentuckys of the world away when you're a program like Baylor. It's 100% on the coach to decide whether or not he wants to go. If Drew leaves, it's 100% on Drew. No one else deserves credit or blame.

Baylor fans want their AD fired if Drew goes to UK. UK fans want their AD fired for hiring Drew. Everyone hates their AD.

In other news, water is wet.

Which should weigh heavily on Drew, the part about UK folks wanting to fire the AD for hiring Drew. Who the hell wants to walk into a job under those circumstances.

Realistically Drew has to know he can probably coach here another 15-20 years if he wants and be another Rupp or Iba ( OSU Iba).

Drew could make a public statement saying that there was NOTHING that Mack or Baylor could have done to keep him had he left and Rhoades would still be blamed, as there was nothing he could have done with the other coach, as well. Despite what many think, you cannot buy a person's heart.

I don't think any AD could have kept Drew from leaving for Kentucky if his heart was set on going there. But the fact that he chose to stay dispels any silly notion that he has a poor working relationship with Mack Rhoades.

Clearly Scott Drew is happy and well taken care of at Baylor. There's no way he stays for 22 seasons (with more to come) if he wasn't.

While I think Mack has really let BU down on the football front, I think he absolutely deserves credit for maintaining an atmosphere (culture, pay, autonomy, etc) where Drew would want to stay - even when a storied, cash rich program like UK comes calling. Drew gets the real credit of course but Mack has served us well on this front.

The money is in Football, basketball money is an also ran. The football debacle is big enough to fire Mack over regardless of what he did or didn't do to keep Drew.

if talking straight $'s, you are 100% right. I give more money to Baylor when basketball or football does well. I am sure others do as well. Not sure how you capture this.
