I don't see any available centers that would be a clear upgrade over Josh O. Maybe they wait. If all they can find is a big body to give Josh O a breather, I would think they could basically always find one of those.

I would hope for Jaylen Wells, Coleman Hawkins, Trevon Brazile, ugonna Onyeso, or Baba Miller. No idea who we're actually pursuing though

Yeah, we won't necessarily be looking for an upgrade over Josh O. In our system CSD likes to split playing time pretty evenly at the 5. The other guy won't have to be a star player who demands lots of touches. Might just be someone who can absorb 18-20 minutes and can D up, set good screens, and rebound.

If they weren't looking for a clear upgrade they wouldn't have went after Aidoo. There's still a few Centers left who are clear upgrades and I won't be surprised if we're going after them behind closed doors

I don't think Aidoo would be a huge upgrade over Josh O. Yes he is probably better than Josh O at this stage of his career and would have received a larger share of the playing time. But I imagine their playing time would have been fairly even. I think a lot of us tend to underestimate Josh O. He took huge strides last year and I expect an even bigger leap from him during the offseason.

I'm not underestimating Josh O one bit. But you just agreed with me essentially. Right now Aidoo is the better player. The gap imo is wider than what you think it is. I don't necessarily think he's a stud but we're taking about an All SEC guy.
I'll stand by my comment that we're looking for upgrades and all evidence suggest that

If we get a starting-caliber center, which Aidoo is and which Josh O is, then the minutes will still be split pretty evenly between them. Josh won't suddenly turn into a benchwarmer. It would be a tiimeshare at the 5 like last year between Josh and Missi.

Where did I ever say he would? Never said that. I said we're looking for an upgrade at the Center and we are. No where did I say Josh isn't gonna play. He's still gonna get 12-15 minutes a game

If Josh is getting only 12 to 15 minutes per game that means we are getting a superstar at the 5 position.
I hope you're right.

Omier can play the 5 (did plenty at the U. No idea who coach will target next.
Insiders mentioned Wells as someone BU has at least talked too

Is Omier not actually 6'5"? I'm genuinely confused how we view him as a post player, and if he's wanting to make the NBA leap he's not going to be a post player at that level either so I wouldn't expect him to spend time there next year at least intentionally.

I do agree with OP I want a guard and someone to help support Josh O at center. We clearly went hard after Aidoo and got out bid, I don't thank that's a vote of confidence against Josh O, I hope it wasn't. IT would be interesting if we went after a legitimately tall forward and opted for a lineup that trades between no true center and a true center in Josh O.

And on the point of Josh O, I half wonder had we landed Aidoo if Josh O would have left on account he's basically the only guy to proudly announce he was returning. Any center we add is going to be in a time share, and ideally would have more than 1 year, I feel like the 1 year studs at center are gone.

Omier is only 6'5 plays much much bigger just like Vital did.

Richmond doesn't fit. Square peg round hole situation. Definitely agree we need another big.
If we add another guard I'm guessing it'll be a project type as minutes will be hard to find

Watch Miami v Houston NCAA tournament game. Iowa called that one. He pounded and bullied them. Has a 7' wing span. If he was 6-9 he'd be a first round nba pick.

Omier is 6-7, 250 with a 7-foot wingspan. He played more post than forward at Miami.

We say that but if Wright turns out to be more Miro Little than the almost one and done he's constantly portrayed as then we will be hurting at guard.

Between betting on a freshman, betting on development of Nunn, and betting on health of Love, we need another guard.

Another decent guard is really really necessary for this team
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lots of Ifs there. Nunn will be serviceable. Love is a baller (when healthy) and Wright by all accounts is gonna be special. We're going to have a hard time convincing any impact guard to come here at this point. Maybe will add another impact wing

There's not enough playing time for six guards, and none of the five that are already in the fold are here to sit. No decent guard would transfer to a place with five guards who expect you play.

You have a really weirdly negative view of our guard group for some reason, but the five we have are the five we're rolling with, so you'd better get used to the idea.

If we add a guard, it will be a developmental guy, not someone expected to contribute next season.

Wright as a backup with lower pressure than our freshman of the past is a perfect fit. Great role for him to contribute and grow. Nunn and Love should continue to progress. I don't expect Nunn, Josh, or Love to be the same players (in a good way).

We don't have 6 spots at guard. Everyone stayed to play

Fully agree. Wright should thrive with an experienced star at the position like Roach to learn from. Wright won't have to absorb too many minutes or high-pressure situations right off the bat. Love the situation too for Asemota who is kind of been a forgotten guy here. Having a proven stud like Omier to learn from will be great for his development.

Obviously, the biggest challenge for a 5-11 pg. is figuring out how to get his shot off in the Big 12. Wright brings unmatched speed at the position, and superb ball handling skills.
Feeling better about what Drew and co. are putting together. We are height challenged, with Josh at 6-10, after that we are vulnerable, we need another big body. Kansas will look to get Josh in foul trouble and let the 7 footer take over. I would like a top-level center, but I think someone who can give us 10-15 minutes will work. Agree another wing would work great as well.

A top level center would be a great get but as many have said I'd expect a serviceable big to split time with Josh O. If it's a defensive minded aggressive rebounder all the better.

Ivan, I don't know if you have seen videos of Robert Wright or not, but no one that I have seen suggests that he is a one and done. Most project him to be a three year player, and probably a four year player. If he had Miro Little's body then he would likely be a one and done, and if Miro had Wright's skill set and basketball IQ, he would be looking at the 2025 NBA draft and wondering if maybe he should not have set his sights for 2024.

Wright is 6' tall at this point, tall enough for a Division I basketball player, but a bit on the short side for the NBA.
He is a great prospect for the Bears and should be on the floor enough this year for Baylor fans to get an idea of what is in store for them up ahead. Having Tweety Carter to mentor him will be an added bonus.

No I have, and I expect him to be a multi year player, but so many on this board are also counting wright as having the talent of a one and done in the body of a non NBA player. I really hope this is the case, but I keep seeing people assuming the guy is going to come in and play 15-20 minutes a game. I'm just not super sold on this and it's nothing to do with his tape and everything to do with our conference chews up and spits out young guards.

I expect him to be a beast and he's going to have one of the best small guards ever on the coaching staff teaching him out to play in Tweety Carter, so I'm expecting big things, just not next season.

Which leads to my concern with the guard core on this team. I hate to be overly negative but I see only one ball handler who you expect to get serious minutes unless Wright comes in way above his experience level. I'm very much not sold on Nunn as a player his only strength last year was streaky offense against lesser competition only. Love isn't really a ball handler and while he's great he's got to prove he won't get injured and miss serious time again.

I'm not suggesting or thinking we add a top flight guard (although if we had another combo guard that could be a real game changer), I am saying we need an add of someone who maybe is willing to sit a bit, be a starter next year, but also be able to come in and defend and run some point.

I also care a lot about that development hole we have now with the loss of Little. We've got to be working and developing not just Wright but someone to go with him in the future.

Damn, dude. Did Jayden Nunn steal your girlfriend or something?

To the "only strength last year was streaky offense against lesser competition," here's his best scoring games, in descending order:

vs (at the time) #25 OU: 27 pts, 8-12 from the field, 6-9 from 3
vs UMKC: 25 pts, 8-9 from the field, 4-5 from 3
@ WVU: 20 pts, 7-11 from the field, 5-9 from 3
vs #7 KU: 18 pts, 7-8 from the field, 3-3 from 3
vs #12 ISU: 16 pts, 4-5 from the field, including the game-winning layup in the final 2 seconds
vs MVSU: 15 pts, 5-7 from the field, 4-4 from 3
@ Texas: 15 pts, 5-10 from the field, 2-4 from 3
vs John Brown: 15 pts, 6-10 from the field, 2-4 from 3
vs and @ Tech: 14 pts both times, on virtually identical statlines, 5-10 from the field, 1-4 and 1-5 from 3

10 games, only 3 of which were against non-Big 12 competition, and 6 of whom were in KenPom's top 50 teams. If you're going to confidently state things like how he only was good against trash competition, at least have some factual information to back it up. He was good in a lot of big-time games for us on very efficient shooting numbers. Did he disappear in a few key games? Sure, but what you posted is flat-out wrong, and you should stop posting it in every thread about our team next year.

This is college basketball. Nobody has a rotation of 5 proven guards. Everyone has questions. Even our 2021 team, to which it seems every future Baylor team will be compared against for all time, only had 3 proven guards going into the season. We thought we had a solid player in Adam Flagler, but he had never played a minute for us before that season began. Expecting us to add another guard just because we only have 2.5-3 proven entities in the backcourt is wishful thinking. I can't see us adding another guard. If we do, I'll be pretty shocked.

I was down on Nunn through the early part of Big 12 play, but he stepped up big time when Love went down and finished the season strong. He was a big part of our team by the end of the season.

I'm really excited to see how he progresses in his second year in the program. I'm expecting his best season yet.

Every team in the college game has flaws. If Drew picked up another high level combo guard and added a rated big to fill that gaping hole you're talking super team level here. It's just not possible.

We literally have 5 guys that have or are going to avg 10+ a game in that scenario (Love/Nunn/Roach (last yr), VJ (easily 10 + ppg scorer) and the additional combo guard). Just not enough minutes for that. There's only ball.
