The transfer portal is far more prevalent now than it was even 3 years ago, so it's not reasonable to build a roster the same way we did then. Any programs recruiting focus should be based around bringing in the best talent they can. Whether that be the portal, 1 and dones, or 4 year players. Everyone here is over thinking this.

Everyone is talking about making it deep in March like that's just super easy to do. We have been an elite program the last bit and that doesn't change because we shot like **** vs Clemson and couldn't come all the way back.

No one has said making deep runs in March is easy, but there are common characteristics that teams that routinely do so share. And they're not built like we are.

And failing to reach the second weekend for three straight years while seeded 1, 3 and 3 is a failure. There's no other way to put it. There's nothing elite about habitually bowing out in the round of 32.

We have a very good, very consistent program. But elite teams win in March.

If only CSD knew how to win in March.

No one here wants to become UVA. Let's not forget Tony Bennett won a natty and is quite frankly an inflexible coach who is driving his program into the ground right now.

Winning a Natty doesn't mean every decision you make afterwards is right.

Exactly.

No one on this thread is saying Scott Drew is a bad coach or hasn't had past success in the tournament.

But the fact of the matter is we haven't had any success in the tournament since we started constructing our rosters the way we currently are. In fact, we have been one of the biggest tournament underachievers in the entire country. And the last two years those *****s in the armor have shown up early enough in the season to foretell our coming collapse.

Just because we have posters here who are content to ignore those signs and belittle anyone who suggests they are, in fact, real, ceiling-limiting issues, doesn't make it out of bounds to question whether what we're doing is actually working.

This year will be the litmus test for me. If we can't win big with this roster, which means competing for championships and making a deep run in the tournament, we need to dump the rent-a-roster strategy and hit the reset button.

We will undoubtedly have one of the top-10 most talented rosters in the country this season. There is no valid excuse whatsoever for us not to win. If we don't, it will likely be one of three reasons -- 1. We still can't defend, 2. We rely too heavily on our freshmen, or 3. Our team of one-year mercenaries doesn't jell in time to form a cohesive unit.

If we suffer another early tournament exit next March, we'll be in the exact same situation Kentucky was in at the end with Cal -- minus being stupid enough to fire a hall of fame coach, of course.
