Literally hundreds of fully qualified college assistant coaches with years of coaching experience and highly successful high school coaches, all who share one specific different characteristic than Gottlieb, yet never given an opportunity to be a head coach of a college basketball program.

How many people do you think were actually interested in the Green Bay job? Before last year, that program had gone 16-76 over a three-year stretch, and the coach responsible for last year's "success" -- they went 18-14 -- bounced as soon as he possibly could.

I can't blame racism for Black coaches not getting a job they were highly unlikely to even be after in the first place. I can't imagine many up-and-coming Black coaches are eager to bet their entire careers on a bad program in a state where Blacks make up only 6.3 percent of the population and a city where it's even less than that (4.2 percent).

In fairness to him, the most important thing in all of college coaching is recruiting. His profile will help him in that and as long as he has solid assistants around him it theoretically could work.

The fact he's keeping his radio show... means it won't lol.

What an idiotic post…yeah, those crackers in Green Bay hate black people so much they hired the first white guy they could find, winning be damned.

What probably happened is Doug agreed to be paid very little for the opportunity and would use a Deion Sanders-like coaching philosophy to bring in recruits. And if he does well, he can try to get the Oklahoma State job, his dream job. The hire has failure and publicity stunt by the school and the coach written all over it, but it does not have racism written all over it.

Gottlieb has applied for at least 20 jobs over last 10 years....we shall see .

His dad was head coach at Milwaukee so there's the connection.

No racism, I just remember he spoke one year at the Basketball Kickoff Luncheon in Waco. Had Nothing, Zero, Zilch, kind or positive to say about Baylor. I almost walked out. I have nothing good to say of the snarky SOB.?

Oh, he's a smug dbag for sure.

About the only nice thing he's said in recent memory about BU, was the new Foster Pavilion, calling it perfection. He has been outspoken that Ok State overexpanded Gallagher Iba way too much and preferred the smaller, original style.

Patrick Hunter gave him an excruciating 2 OT loss in Waco when he played for the Pokes.
