Anyone's guess. All 3 portal pick ups have been surprises. Wouldn't shock me if we add another true C
Who is the best 5 left?
Hawkins and the UK kid are the best Centers left. Neither are realistic
We've got a few scholarships left. There's no reason to not to use them. I'd bet we get a backup center and a guard with no expectation of playing time. Neither will be big-time guys, but they'll help round out the roster.

By my count that leaves 3 scholarships left, I'd expect at minimum one center as we lost Boyed and we only have one true big man on this team.
The other who knows, I would argue a young shooting guard would maybe make most sense or maybe a walk on gets a scholarship.
I agree it's unlikely we get a big fish. But honestly, I think we still kind of need one with height. That would put this team into the top 5 elite talent level grouping.
Right now we've got a maybe top 10ish roster on paper (lack of cohesion is a big question mark). It should be fun to watch, but it feels a little ragtag, It'll play small and not like what we're used to seeing unless Josh O is going to play 35 minutes a game. Not that playing small is a bad thing, it's just very different and can land you in some unfavorable matchups.

Would like a 5 who could give 10-15 minutes. Wouldn't mind another Gillespie like project who was cool without receiving a ton of minutes if any in year 1. Omier can play 5 but having someone with the height to defend a 7'er would be nice.
Considering how much Josh O improved over the last year, and assuming his development is continuing apace, I would not mind him getting more minutes. It would be wonderful if he did more Yves Missi kind of things.

The impact of a year in our S&C program was noticeable for Josh O as he went from being a tall skinny freshman to more of a physical post player body last season and I'm optimistic about even more development by the time next season rolls around. IMO he's earned the starting 5 position and while it's nice to have Omeir as another option we still need another legit physical big that can give us at least a good solid 10-12 minutes a game from the portal.
I agree with this. I think Josh O will be improved and a good Big12 5, but if he gets in foul in trouble we have to play small ball and if Omier gets in foul trouble we have to play 5 guards or a walk on.
The clock continues to tick on landing another big from the portal for the '24-'25 season - assuming we're still trying to do so - and I don't understand why we wouldn't be. Hope we hear something soon.

I appreciate the versatility of Omier, but IMO that's a risky strategy at best. We need another true big capable of delivering at least 10-12 solid minutes at the 5. It can even be a developmental type that mainly just sets decent screens, has at least average rebounding skills, and is available to absorb some fouls when needed to do so. That will give us three options with Omier being situationally used at the 5 when it makes sense and it would be more insurance for the (God forbid) injury bug.
I agree, a Thamba type who can set screens and give us 15-18 minutes. I still think Omier will play a lof of 5 with Celestine at stretch 4, even if we do pick up another true center.

Need more. We have the highest quality mix of transfers in the whole country.. would be a waste to not go all out to complete the roster with one more quality big.
There were many and would have put us among the top 3 favorites to win it all. Hawkins or the K state pick up would have been ideal. We have a ton of quality minutes to give unless Josh makes a historic jump. Right now not much separation after KU / Alabama

It appears that KSU has a commitment from Coleman Hawkins, top remaining PF in the portal. At my count, KSU has added three PF and a center from the portal this year. Will Tang be running the "no middle, no guard", defense next year?ScottS said:
