Yes players can leave within the next 30 days if their head coach is gone. Also let's wait and see if he for sure leaves because targeting doesn't exactly mean he is gone. I would wait for a statement saying he is now lakers coach or he is staying at UConn.

Why do you think he's gone? The way this reads the Lakers are desperate and are trying public pressure to get him to take the job. Woj leaks things people want leaked not real insight.

The Lakers are an organizational disaster, likely compounded this offseason by the fact that they have to deal with LeBron for as long as he wants to be there. Including essentially being forced to draft his kid. They've had 7 coaches in the last 13 years and none of them have done anything at all except for the COVID tourney, which most people don't rate.

My guess is Hurley says thanks-no thanks and Redick ends up with it. Hurley won't get personnel final say and will probably be behind both Pelinka and LeBron in terms of team-building. No idea why he would want that job beyond $.

The lakers are the premier job in the NBA. And Hurley has said many times he wants to coach in the NBA someday.

If this were 5 years ago, not a question he's gone. Lebron at this point? If he is thinking at all long term, he has to be thinking of a rebuild. Only with Lakers granting him full control over player personnel.

Lebron even at this point in his career is a top 7 player. He's a good enough coach that he could win big right away with the Lakers roster as it is. Maybe he decides to stay. But I'd be rather surprised if that's the case

Why wouldn't he? He won back to back championships in college. He has stated he wants a shot at the NBA. He should take a shot at it. Maybe he doesn't pan out, there will be a lot of colleges willing to offer him after the NBA if that's the case.

Fair, didn't realize he wanted an NBA gig. I guess in my eyes, he is around family, loves that part of the country, and has his program humming. He could go out as one of the greatest of all time. His style of coaching is also pretty intense and not sure how well it translates to the NBA.

"Most people" = made up statistic.

It's a championship. It still counts. In fact, "many people" would say that it counts more because everyone is equal in the bubble. Everyone was at their healthiest, no team had a court advantage. It was just about who played the best.

I certainly don't want to go back to that time, but that title is still a real title.

Or course it counts. It just doesn't count equally because everything about its circumstances are incomparable. It's an outlier incapable of being compared to any other title because it included zero of the logistical challenge characterized by a playoff run. And it's not comparable to the '20-21 NCAA tourney because those are always neutral court games at centralized host sites. NBA playoff games are not.

Hurley would be crazy to take the Lakers job. Few assets moving forward, an aging set of superstars and a bad, inbred basketball organization.

He better asked for lots of money and a say in player acquisitions. I can't imagine how he is going to tolerate the Lakers losing 10 winnable games during the season due to complete indifference and arrogance.

Sometimes crazy makes total sense. Recycle that entire roster and be Championship ready in 3-4 years. I'm not so confident that La Bum stays with Lakers. If I'm Hurley I want that guy out of the city as soon as possible.

And remember, he grew up playing for a dad who has some of the greatest HS team ever assembled back in that era.

I'd like to see what he can do. I also like to know when the Jet leaves for Storrs to bring some players to Waco for a visit. Get on it Drew

Hurley is on record saying he hates the direction college basketball and college sports in general are going.

We don't have enough money left to buy even mid-tier players for next year which is the main reason you haven't seen us add anyone else and probably won't. We certainly don't have enough to buy anyone of value off UConn's roster.
