If that was for four years then maybe. This NiL crap is getting ridiculous. Maybe I'm just old. It's going to push me; maybe others, to stop being interested. There needs to be some sort of regulation/cap. Also, I wish the NBA would allow 18 year olds to get drafted. Just end the whole one and done era for good.
Agree on letting kids be eligible for the draft right out of high school. If these top players/NBA locks are simply going to the highest bidder, it cheapens the college game and makes it too much of a developmental league. If we're going to be paying kids a lot of money, spreading the wealth among your existing roster and 4th/5th year transfers with an unlikely or questionable NBA future (i/e. true student athletes) makes more sense.
There's nothing stopping college from requiring minimum 2 years to play in college, they're making their own disaster with waiting on the NBA.
I would like to see a 2-year minimum as well. Unless they have changed in the last couple of years, scholarships are year to year, so there might be NCAA rules to work around. Secondly, there is nothing to hold a player from going pro or to the portal in the second year. Whatever the assurances a player has made staying in school, if he gets a clear signal he can land in the 1st round of the draft he is gone. The bigger problem than the NBA (which is only going to grab about 15 or so from the college ranks in the first round per year), is the portal, which can take literally everyone. It was my understanding Nigel Pack signed a multi year NIL with Miami. Not sure if that was binding but if you can make a long term NIL agreement stick it might help create some continuity with teams, rather than replacing 60% of the roster every single year.
