Holy cow! Can he win Big12 POY?

I think Udoh is the last guy I remember being able to post-up and get things done. We needed a basket badly down the stretch only up by 3 and they called a play for Omier. And old school play of posting up, backing your guy down and going up strong for 2. To be able to have that option in close games is going to be huge. It's either points, free throws or double team. He can pass so none of those are great options for the defense.

Great response last night !

Omier is going to be a fan favorite for sure. I absolutely love his game. He's way too strong for any of these modern-era beanpoles in the post. He just pushes them right under the basket and scores at will.

He will be a fan favorite.

If he can just stay out of foul trouble. But Drew also had faith in him to continue playing him even after he got his 3rd foul in the first half.

Definitely a double - double machine.

Already in basketball love with the guy! What a joy to watch and well worth every penny we paid to get him.

Biggest fear: what happens if he fouls out. Yikes. We have no depth upfront.

He is going to give us a nice scoring option if the threes aren't falling. I'm very impressed with what I've seen from him so far. Motor is always running and pedal pressed to the floor.

Reminds me of a certain undersized hustling power forward on the 2021 team.

A better version.

Imagine Omier not being picked big 12 1st team. Wild

But less defensive ability. Omier is solid on that end but Vital was one of the best defenders I have ever seen in college basketball.

He and Vital aren't terribly similar players IMO. Both are/were really good at what they do/did, though.

Both have high motors. Where one excelled in D the other excels in O. Where one struggles in D the other struggled with O.

Bet he'll make all the Big 12 end of season lists.

Probably because Vital was one of the best defenders in college basketball over the best decade or longer.

It's been a while since we have had a offensively gifted big man down low. EDJ was getting there for sure but then got hurt. I'm really excited to see what he can do in this offense over the season.

I can picture Wright putting a defender on his hip and going down the lane to either shoot a floater or dish it off to Omier for the flush.

Two games in and we still have not seen what the offense can do when threes are falling. When that starts to happen on a consistent basis, the middle is going to open up.

I guess Motley would have been our last really dynamic post scorer, though Tristan Clark was on his way to becoming a star before his injury.

We've had others like TJ Maston and Freddie Gillespie who were skilled, but Maston didn't have the motor to be great unfortunately and Gillespie had too much ground to make up developmentally when he arrived.

Gillespie's greatest contributions were on the defensive side. He was amazing at times.

He was an elite defensive player. But by his senior year, he was a really efficient post scorer with a reliable jump shot out to 15 feet. He had improved his offensive skill set tremendously.
