Maybe this is a simple as Nico is a Lakers fan.

I have seen speculation that if he gets fired by the Mavericks don't be surprised if he ends up in LA.

Of courseā€¦ Luka would hate that.

It's almost like the Mavs GM has no prior front office experience ... oh wait

Honestly, the fact that Nico pulled the trigger on this one increases the chance it's a set up. His entire career is basically just being an NBA insider. It is not hard at all to believe he was told this was for the good of the league, and a brand new owner rep didn't push back. Actually a perfect set up for the league to move a generational talent to their most marketable team. Hopefully, he at least got a "coincidental" lottery pick or three for the Mavs (not holding my breath).

This was step one to moving the team to Vegas.

Yeah. It is very likely that the "unseen" consideration in this trade is cooperation from the league when the Adelson's move the team to LV.

I had not even thought about this angleā€¦ but what big time free agents are going to wanna come to Dallas after watching the GM treat their star player like that?

This is some dork in his mom's basement. Don't believe these accounts.

Appears the Mavs are heavily pursuing Kevin Durant.

Stay tuned.

Apparently, Nico Harrison is under the impression that it is 2018.

Dumping one of the game's best young stars a year after a finals appearance to assemble the aging avengers is certainly a choice.

Whether that quoted statement is true or notā€¦ I believe the sentiment holds true. What star player would want to come to Dallas after seeing how Luka was treated?

What's the trade bait for that? 2031 first round picks?

Don't think the Mavs have the players to incentivize Phoenix.

I can't think of a single time that a plan like this - where you acquire past their prime stars- has worked. Didn't work for the rockets, lakers, or nets.

I was thinking of the Nets when I posted that, but the others are good examples too.

I'm not gonna say I wasn't shocked...or wanted more back in the trade ..

But we don't make the Finals if not for Nico and the trades he made last year... people seem to be forgetting that..

And we don't get Kyrie if not for the relationship with Nico..

So I'm willing to let our roster get healthy and see how this all plays out.

What do you mean how he was treated? He was traded. Yes, he wasn't kept informed of the trade talks, which I imagine happened relatively quickly, but what difference would it have made if he was informed of the talks? This is a business and all of the players know this is a business. Luka's drunk father complaining about him being treated poorly doesn't change the fact that these grown men are paid millions of dollars every year to play a children's game.

This is business and this is entertainment. If the Mavs call and they offer you a contract similar to what you are looking for and you think you can be successful on the team, you are going to talk with them. This trade doesn't change that. There are only 30 basketball clubs in the world that can offer these players this kind of money, and the Mavs are one of those.

Apparently came from above Nico

So everyone can blame Miriam Aldeson.

Wow. If true, it would appear to me at least to confirm some of the conspiracy theories regarding the casino and potential move to Las Vegas.

Mark Cuban is a POS for selling the team to these yahoos. Basically a big fat "f you" to Mavs fans.
Stefano DiMera
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I'm beginning to think this is a leverage move...if the Mavs are unpopular.. losing money and fans .if she doesn't get her casino gambling passed in the Texas Legislature...off to Vegas we go .

A generational superstar is always more valuable than any sports executive. The best executives are able to swallow their pride and admit as much.

Nothing Nico has done or will do on the positive side of the ledger will ever balance out of the negative of severing ties with Luka Doncic, who was far more responsible for last season's success than any of the players Nico added to the roster.

And we know this because Doncic carried a team that started Dorian Finney-Smith, Dwight Powell and Reggie Bullock to the Western Conference finals two years earlier -- before Nico traded Porzingis for spare parts and let Jalen Bruson walk for nothing.

And even the Kyrie Irving trade only worked out because he resigned. That would have been Rondo 2.0 if he had made a different decision after that first half-season.

I saw Wayne Gretzky get traded in his prime.

If he can .. anyone can.

I think there are 2 factors at play. It's not just that they traded a superstar in his prime...but also that they didn't get a commensurate return.

I get it. But we as fans sometimes think we have all the info ..like the Langston/Roach injuries and why they aren't playing..

But we really don't know what's happening behind the scenes..and why decisions are made ..and frankly aren't owed any explanation..no matter how much season tickets are .

Putting the picture in the frame..and that video I posted from Cowherd...this came from the Adelson/Dumont ownership group.

Nico is the fall guy..

Regardless, barring Luka being a raging alcoholic who's out of the Association in 4 years, this trade will go down as one of the worst trades of all time. Probably top 2.

And it's either the personal ax-grinding of a ego-mad GM, who acted without the advice or consent of virtually anyone else in the organization, or the order of a soulless ownership group that is actively seeking ill-will with the fans.

Both are worthy of contempt, disdain and/or general apathy from those asked to fund the team through tickets, merchandise and viewership.

Fans don't have to support local teams -- even those who have been diehards for a long time. The Mavericks are about to learn that lesson the hard way after trading a local icon with no reasonable justification for a terrible return.

Increasingly in both sports and general life, us plebs are being shat on and told to like it by billionaires who could use a good refresher course on what happens historically when the rich and powerful push the unwashed masses too far. There are a lot more of us than there are of them. And we have far less to lose.

Everyone but Anthony Davis is playing. And his absence is one the team might as well get used to now.

EDIT: I guess Lively and Washington are out, too, aren't they? I just did a quick box score check, which is more attention than I plan to give most games going forward.

I might tune in to part of the first home game post-trade just to see how bad the reaction gets.

Yep... Lively out hurt .. Washington on personal leave cause he and wife had a baby ...and newly acquired Caleb Martin and Davis not cleared yet.
