Baylor men’s basketball has been named the No. 9 seed in the East Region by the NCAA Tournament selection committee on Sunday evening.

Baylor (19-14, 10-10 Big 12) will play its first two games of the NCAA Tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is set to face No. 8 seed Mississippi State (21-12, 8-10 SEC) in the Round of 64 at 11:15 a.m. CT on Friday, March 21.

With a victory over the Bulldogs, Baylor would move on to the Round of 32, where the Bears would face the winner of No. 1 seed Duke (31-3, 19-1 ACC) and a No. 16 seed out of the first four.

Baylor enters the Big Dance with wins in three of its last five games; the two narrow losses came in the regular season finale to the Big 12 Champion Houston Cougars (30-4, 19-1) and then to Texas Tech (25-8, 15-5) in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.

The Bears have not made it past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since the 2020-2021 National Championship season. The three consecutive round-of-32 losses have been at the hands of No. 8 seed North Carolina, No. 6 seed Creighton and No. 6 seed Clemson.

Miss St goes as Josh Hubbard goes. Hopefully Drew puts Vj on him. Lock him up and the Bulldogs will have a tough time scoring. VJs length & athleticism will cause him issues being under 6ft

I like the idea of a bigger player on him but since we switch everything they'll just weave out front till they get what they want. I'm just hoping as this group has had time together they've worked on a Box and 1. Force him left without giving too much away on the defensive boards. May take a blend of hard work, prayer, voodoo and witchcraft to slow him down.

Play the Bulldogs, win it, then on to the next game.
Just glad our Bears are in the Big Dance.

That is solid logic, although 1 major thing concerns me about that matchup. Hubbard has excelled all year at drawing fouls and getting opposing teams in foul trouble. VJ, although not as bad as Omier, is prone to unnecessary reaching fouls sometimes. I would hate to see VJ get in foul trouble early on. Hubbard only shoots 34% from 3 and 39% from 2, which are both pretty marginal. He averages almost 5 points a game solely on FTs as an almost 90% FT shooter because he's adept at leaning in and getting fouls called while he's in shooting motion. But, as you say, the trade off is that if VJ can shut him down without fouling it basically decimates the Mississippi St offense that I've seen (although I've only seen them a few times).

The concern I have is their incredibly long. If you put VJ on him that leave Rob vulnerable. Wright would be guarding someone north of 6'5 that's a recipe to get cooked. But if we role with Wright on Hubbard we're in for a long day. Hubbard will cook RW on the offensive end of the court.
