A source close to the situation tells me that Rob Wright to BYU is a done deal and the NIL amount is $3.5 million. pic.twitter.com/ofT8rhtVb2

BYU's teams are always Charmin soft and terrible defensively. Wright won't help in that regard.IowaBear said:
Pathetic…. College sports are so ****ing stupid. BYU and their 20 million dollar roster still won't win the B12

I'd be leaving too, if someone wanted to pay me 3+ milly to do the same job
Unless he surprises and makes the first round of the NBA, its a lot more money that he will be making drafted in the second round.Tempus Edax Rerum said:
I don't blame him one bit. Good for him, get paid. Everyone else is.

Yep… I hate this completely… But I can't be mad at him. Just wish he had announced early in the window. I'm guessing maybe they approached him late or something.

We can blame him because he signed a 1.5 million contract to stay with BU. He had this staff believing/relying on him staying true to his word. They literally didn't bring in players because they were banking on Rob staying true to his word. Had Rob been honest from the get go that he was bolting the moment someone offers more than it's a different story. There's literally nothing to indicate that was the case. This staff was by all accounts completely blindsided
. Who should they have retained? Vj is a top 5 pick and nor has is out of eligibility?Jorkel said:boognish_bear said:Jorkel said:

Maybe he should have announced that he was open to entertaining offers, but let's put some responsibility on the coaching staff. They didn't retain **** for him. If you have to play for a brand new team anyways might as well go get paid for it.
No one is saying Wright shouldn't take the money. We're saying that BYU is vastly overpaying for the player they're getting.Jorkel said:bear2be2 said:BYU's teams are always Charmin soft and terrible defensively. Wright won't help in that regard.IowaBear said:

Not like we didn't have a charmin soft defense too. Why not take double the money at this point.
The issue is that our roster got so thin this past season that there were no players worth keeping. That was a problem three years in the making.Ewalker80 said:. Who should they have retained? Vj is a top 5 pick and nor has is out of eligibility?Jorkel said:boognish_bear said:Jorkel said:

If there is a legitimate contract that extended beyond the freshman season, then there could be a case for tortious interference against BYU. However, as scholarships are typically renewable year to year, it might be argued that any NIL agreement is subject to the scholarship, making the multiyear NIL unenforceable.IowaBear said:
