100 percent. I said last year that I would be perfectly fine with a rebuilding year if we were actually building toward something. That would be a hell of a lot better than this current treadmill we're on.IowaBear said:
I'm hoping the rest of the incoming transfers are young guys. I'm aware they could ultimately leave. But the 3 in so far are gone next season regardless. And everyone Baylor has been linked to has 1 year of eligibility. Fat chance will be in a very similar situation next year. I'd almost rather they punt on this season and find some hungry dudes with chips on their shoulders.
Hell, Drew should sell a 1 game spot on the team for that game and let than fan do it...Mitch Henessey said:

We will eventually find out what happened this year. Something is decidedly broken, between the new coaching staff, NIL management, donors, and players. My sense is the money pressure caught people flat footed, and we made bad decisions. You can't have an entire roster depart on you and argue things aren't broken.IowaBear said:

Many on this board want to argue it's just the NCAA and this is happening to every team. I wouldn't expect tons of answers from what really happened at Baylor. We're not known for transparency and the baylor media is extremely captured by the university in regards to what they reveal.TWD 1974 said:We will eventually find out what happened this year. He signed a NIL deal, which says you do these specific things you get $1.5 million. None of those things involved include playing basketball for Baylor. He will simply not perform on the contract and watch it get cancelled.OsoCoreyell said:
If he had signed a contract with Baylor for $1.5 (as some on here have said), he should be liable for damages, and BYU should be sued for tortious interference. Calling John Eddie.

So we can all be in agreement now we lowballed Wright because Drew and co are not remotely judging the market correctly.gobears20 said:NEW: JT Toppin is expected to make around $4M in NIL at Texas Tech next season, @MattNorlander reports🤯https://t.co/DFUayFSGMY https://t.co/vrV2CKRuJZ pic.twitter.com/EzzB07gs5p

When Toppin gets $4M it makes me think $3.5 for Wright is ridiculous. I really like Wright, but one year of Wright vs one year of Toppin is not even close.
Now if BYU got Wright on some sort of guaranteed contract for multiple years, I would understand $3.5M, but I don't think that exists yet.
The complete irony is he agrees with me on almost every point other than he wants to blame the Wright situation all on Wright.LIB,MR BEARS said:its interesting how his thoughts are opinions but you see your thoughts as facts that can't be arguedIvanBear said:Whatever you want T-shirt fan. And by the way. A fat chunk of this board would agree with me that you're clueless when it comes to bb iq. I'm just bold enough to say it out loud.
You're so far off on Omier it's silly. He carried about a 13-win team to the second round of the NCAA tournament this year and almost single-handedly had us on even footing with Duke until he picked up his third foul.IvanBear said:Whatever you need to feel good about yourself.IowaBear said:

You complain endlessly about Drew on this board you were late to the party on the roster construction stuff but you've gotten there. I've been complaining about roster construction and decisions as long as i've been active posting here because they've been bad since 2022. I decided to finally get an account again after resisting the baylor fans transition. The roster construction and recruiting decisions has been a dumpster fire long before Drew started flirting with Kentucky, that flirtation just cause Drew to drop the ball even harder.
The collapse of our roster is epic in scale and unprecedented in the sport. Yet I've never called for Drew's head just clearly pointed out, he's not the coach he used to be and quite frankly we're suffering under him right now.
He honestly deserves a lot of credit taking this dumpster fire team he had to the second round, he can clearly still coach. This team wasn't really worth of a tournament birth in a normal year, college basketball was just extremely down or maybe the sport is changing and sub 20 win teams easily making the tournament will be the norm.
I'm just sick of Drew tarnishing his legacy and tanking this crown jewel he built, I hope he changes, I fear he won't.
I got dragged last year endlessly by calling out Nunn on this board in the offseason and had everyone coming for me saying he was going to be great for us next year and to expect big jumps. But those predictions turned out real great. Instead of just saying roster construction sucks I was also calling out the specific player decisions because yeah they've sucked.
Adding a hilariously overhyped Omier to the roster at least gave us someone down low, but at the end of the day he was never remotely a good enough player to carry a team, especially because he continued to double down on all the poor decision making and immature play that had marked his career.
He's got an elite nose for the ball and tipping it back in but he does it on trash teams to trash records. He should really thank this friends at Miami he had 2 NBA point guards to drag him to a final four or no one would really care about how rebound and point achievements, he would just be a guy cleaning up on bad teams.
With him, this team was still pretty awful and played some of the most unwatchable basketball I've ever seen out of baylor. I don't disagree he carried us at points, but he is completely incapable of carrying anyone any further than we made it and he's over credited in this season, he was our only post player of course he had to do all the heavy lifting he did it in a way that cost us games and won us others, I would never tell a kid to model their game after him though. I agree with what you say about Duke, but that's the exact problem he was never not going to get in foul trouble during that game (and I thought the duke game officiating was atrocious).bear2be2 said:You're so far off on Omier it's silly. Without him, this team would have been truly awful.
Ormier was already a centerpiece on a final four team, so we don't have to speculate about that. If we had a healthy 5 the way Josh O was trending and Jeremy Roach was what we paid for (think Walter Clayton Jr. on this team---probably similar price), this team could have been a "final four quality" team as well (though realistically still wouldn't have been as good as the top 4 teams this year, but in that range most years). The margins are not that large at the top. And to see this team was "pretty awful" is rank overstatement. We were a top 30 team in all metrics despite the catastrophic injury to Josh O and Langston basically never playing until the end and Roach not being what we paid for.IvanBear said:With him, this team was still pretty awful and played some of the most unwatchable basketball I've ever seen out of baylor. Omier was a blessing and a curse, he's the type of player who's got the talent to put you in the game and the maturity and court discipline to make sure you lose it. He would have been a great piece on a well constructed team, he should have never been viewed as a centerpiece.
Walton avg. 21pts 15 rebounds pg his freshman year. I think he was hard for some of us to process because UCLA would have won without him, and because he followed Alcindor/Kareem, who is on the all-time greats short list.possible12 said:
