Agbim's shot goes off the rim.

We head to overtime.

What a collapse when they started applying full court pressure.

We had a 26 lead with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

Missed FTs were killer for Baylor.

Imagine that problem……again, again, again

Baylor…..dribble into short corner, pick up dribble, turnover…

Bears trail by 4 in OT.

Williams with yet another turnover.

Brazil scores and up by 6.

This team is gonna have to find or develop a floor leader in the Fall.

Williams 2-9 from the FT line as he misses both.

Bears finish the meltdown.

USA takes Silver after blowing a 26 point lead in the 3rd quarter.

We are gonna see a lot of full court presses this year.

Oh well.

Probably better to lose that to motivate some ft shooting and press break drill discipline. They just invited a whole bunch of press and aggressive defense for the whole season until they fix that.

No doubt. Sloppiness is acceptable given they've only been together a month. But FT shooting and dribbling are fundamental basketball skills that have nothing to do with being together as a team and we have multiple guys, including two who were thought to be our leading candidates for starting PG, who have a lot of work to do in those areas. Tweety has his hands full this Fall.

5-1 and a lot of experience and team building. I'll take it

There's not one on this team and it's going to become a problem when we play actual talent.

Probably. Drew otherwise did an outstanding job of recruiting a whole squad from scratch - save that one vital area. Hope it doesn't end up being a major contributing factor to another first weekend of the Tournament exit (for the fifth year in a row).

A video of this game should be attached as an exhibit to our intentional interference with contract lawsuit against BYU and its NIL collective. Other schools have now broken the ice so it's time to file.

It's not Drew's fault. He (and Baylor) got screwed by Rob Wright and his dad. Drew thought he had his PG so he had no reason to be searching for any of the high major PGs in the portal, all of whom went very quickly since every coach knows 1 of the 2 key positions to winning is having a solid PG.

He did a fantastic job of assembling the rest of the roster with the funds we have and if Rob Wright and his father would have been upfront with Drew about looking around even though Rob had already agreed to our deal, I'm confident Drew would have also landed one of those top high major PGs.

Let's remember that this team is missing Rataj, Tounde & Bodo Bodo. Imagine the difference those guys would have made, even in terms of just adding more depth. But we know that, at the very least, Tounde is not just adding depth he's bringing magic. They have ab 4 months to recover from this loss, I think we can hold off on the doom a lil.

EXACTLY. Wright being gone has ZERO to do with this collapse and more about Drew's inability to scheme in the moment around players who obviously are not very disciplined and never learned how to break a press / then reset.

Some garbage takes.

CSD didn't miss numerous FTs. He didn't dribble the ball off his foot twice. He didn't pick up his dribble in stupid places. He didn't schedule 6 games that close in proximity (he did accept the invite).

The team failed to handle ball pressure. Legs started to die. It snowballed.

A pure lead PG probably stops the bleeding (enough). Fresher legs probably insure the win. Work on handling ball pressure definitely needed. But this team has been together about 7 weeks and was playing without five guys (including three likely starters) and has been focused on installing basic O and D schemes.

The meltdown was hard to watch and we all hoped that someone (or some two to three) would step up and stop the implosion. But the sting of the loss might be exactly what the team needs. Motivating any player to work after the nature of losing in that game should not be necessary.

That said, FT shooting and ball security drills need to be the focus until the team gets it right or is bleeding from their eyeballs.

Not sure what doom you're talking about if you're referring to my posts. As I've said, we're fine everywhere else. Actually, this is is the deepest we've been in a quite awhile at every position other than PG. But Rataj, Tounde, & Bodo Bodo have nothing to do with the fact it was glaringly evident we don't have a Big 12 level PG on this roster and couldn't hit FTs. White could turn into a serviceable backup this year and Williams could develop into a player over the next couple of years, but neither showed even basic fundamental dribbling skills that would indicate any success against Big 12 level guard play. Both are way too loose with their handles, almost Stargell Love like, which is scary. The good news is that Tweety and Drew will figure it out in the Fall and I won't be surprised to see Agbim running the offense similar to what Drew did with Flagler his last year.

I agree with all of that.

Do you agree with this: CSD took a guy from the portal that shot 26% from the line last year.

I'm thinking there had to be someone out there with the same skills that shot over 55% from the line. Maybe I'm wrong

Maybe our #1 PG was recruited to be our #2 PG.
Maybe our #3 PG was recruited to redshirt and learn to shoot (cue Davion Mitchell video).

I agree that 26% is beyond bad.

i have to believe that word is currently being spread (with religious fervor) across Europe & Israel that Baylor has need for a starting quality PG and is willing to pay. Senators Cruz and Cornyn need to be on speed dial to help nudge the State Dept. to process a student visa at NASCAR speed.

I still don't believe that 26 percent stat. People make more than that trying to miss and force a rebound at the end of games. Is it possible he was trying to win some kind of prize for lowest free throw percentage in history. Heck shaq was over fifty percent and for him him it was like trying to shoot a ping pong ball.

I have no idea where the 26% figure comes from. Here is what I can get on FT% last season:

JJ White 79.55%
Agbin 78.5%
Williams 44.6%
Carr 77.8%
Skillings 44.0%
Powell 65.0%
Rattaj 78.8%
Bodo Bodo 53.4%

I see a couple of guys who have room to improve, but nowhere near the 26% number. Can we dispense with troll stats for the rest of the summer at least?

44 almost believable but still worst I've seen for a college guard.

Not a troll stat but what I heard on the radio broadcast. Did I hear it incorrectly or did they misstate it? Those are possibilities.

That Skillings number shocked me the most. Fortunately it's not true. He's a career 60's% FT shooter. Still room to improve, but nowhere near 44%.

My bad on the Skillings number, should be 61% from the line last year. I also see where Isaac Williams ended up 10-26 from the line for the 6 games in 8 days (2-9 vs Brazil). Is the 26 number where folks got the 26% idea?

Williams and all of the starters were completely gassed in the last quarter plus against Brazil. Brazil, despite inexplicable play for the first 3 quarters is an uber talented, physical team that we let back in and they took over. It happens. 6 games in 8 days at this level played with a 7 man rotation is not going to produce good free throw percentages. Great job getting to the finals, great effort. Lots to build on. sic em!

Pretty surprised they managed to blow that. Brazil didn't seem capable of scoring enough points when I left in the third quarter.

Really bad loss but fortunately it doesn't really count. Big PG void as we all know. Hopefully the missing depth causing the team to gas/collapse was the bigger issue.

Williams came in with a completely broken shot so that isn't new. But the guy has to find a way to hit 55%+ FT % if he's going to contribute at high D1 level. Got a ton of work to do

I don't know if there really is a "good" loss but we can hope this one will produce similar results. 2019-20 was our best season ever… until the 2020-21 season. Those games were fun to watch!

Yeah, I remember the guy who said "that which does not kill us makes us stronger," ended up in the insane asylum. Humans have the capacity to learn from mistakes and setbacks, but it doesn't seem to happen very often. Of the 10s of 1000s of kids cut from their High School Basketball team 99% of them curse their luck and move on to something else. A Michael Jordan, however, takes it as a personal challenge, works on the holes in his game and becomes someone on the shortlist for GOAT. If this team as some of that kind of determination, I can't wait to see what happens.

All excellent points. I'm still looking forward to watching this team play as a complete unit. Hopefully, they will all remain healthy and have a productive season. The dream is to play more than one weekend of March Madness,
