Lots of marquee opponents....but not in Waco.

Other than Washington, everyone else that comes to Waco is either a SWAC or a total scrub.

Memphis, Louisville, Creighton, St John's....all elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I had a feeling we may not show up on the list this year. TV wants 3 things:

1. Teams competing for the conference title
2. Teams with a big name player or perceived NBA lottery pick
3. Teams with large followings

-We aren't perceived as being one of the 6 schools who have a legit chance at the Big 12 title. Even Fran mentions us as team trying to make the tourney, not one with a serious shot at competing for the Big 12 title. It's hard to have a good feel for a team replacing every player, so we may end up surprising quite a few experts.
.
-We don't have a big name player like we had in the past with Keyonte, Jakobe/Missi and VJ. Yessoufou is probably the biggest name and he's not thought of as a lottery pick at this time.

-We are 5 seasons removed from the Natty and unfortunately, again, we really didn't do much to build on that achievement by going to multiple Sweet 16s or anything like that. We did grab the Big 12 the first year and looked like we were headed toward greatness before the injuries blew that out of the water. But 4 consecutive 1st weekend exits and a visible regression in our position in the conference standings over time as our defense returned to where it was years ago eventually landed us here.

None of that means we can't win or compete. There's always 1 team in the conference that comes out of nowhere and ends up better than what the experts thought. I am excited to see what Sanchez does with the team from a defensive standpoint and I'm excited to see the team we've had in awhile with front court depth. I'll just watch us on other nights.

Florida had six other conference teams ranked ahead of it at the beginning of last season. Their season turned out pretty well.

The Juslin Bodo Bodo injury is huge in my view. Was going to be our best rim protector in years. Really hoping we get him back by conference play.

He;s out until midseason after the accident, last I heard two weeks ago. Accident occurred prior to him getting on campus.

And Perez tore his ACL, so he's out too.

It's pretty remarkable. Especially when you consider that, in Drew's roughly first 15 or so years he had maybe one or two bigtime injuries. Since then, they're occurring annually, often combined with additional chronic injuries, like what happened with Love and Cryer.

Comical now. The program is snake bit since the title. Huge, huge loss.

Was a possible all big 12 defensive rim protector with a little more development. Can't overstate how huge that is.
