Charles Barkley threw some shade at Scott Drew on the inside the nba show last night saying Scott Drew couldn't coach and was holding Vj back and the 76ers saved Vj from Baylor.

Yes, Charles. Drew purposely held VJ back and told him not to shoot the ball or drive to the hoop a @ Baylor. I like Charles but that is the dumbest thing to say....

Some said the same thing about Dean Smith holding back Michael Jordan when he got to the NBA.I will go out on a limb by opining that Smith could and Drew can coach.

If anyone had the privilege to watch the game it was an amazing and tight game. VJ and Tyrone Maxey were awesome to watch. The 76ers showed a lot of confidence in VJ especially at the end of the game. In the last minute he had a dramatic steal, forced a jump ball and made beautiful jumper in the lane.

Nerves got the best of him as he was fouled and went to the line with under .10 for two shots. With a one point lead he missed both shots but then went down and defended on the potential game winner and was mobbed by his teammates.

Awesome !! Shows what a great athlete can do when no one plays defense. The NBA just sucks!

He was the best athlete in cbb last year. The nba is a much more open game and fits him much better than a grinding pack the paint/mug big 12 style.

If he keeps shooting well, sky is the limit.

You try dragging Walton and Lanier down the lane for 40 minutes!

I've seen those same comments as Charles all across social media today about how Drew wasted VJ and held him back.

1. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but the college game is not as wide open as NBA. It's not called that way by the refs and it's not played that way by those in college basketball who can play defenses NBA teams can't. I knew the first time I saw VJ play, viewed that incredible athleticism and deer-like gliding, that his game would be better for the NBA than college. Just like many who shined much more once in the NBA than in college. VJ's not the first so I guess there should be a lot of other coaches getting criticism.

2. One of the reasons VJ came here is because Drew agreed to allow him to work on his outside shooting so that his game would continue developing and I think most all of us here would agree we saw a substantial improvement in his outside shot throughout the season.

I know Charles was just jabbing Drew for fun because he's always talked about Scott and how he likes the entire Drew family. Unfortunately, the jabbing gets turned into fodder used by other coaches and fans to demean Drew's coaching ability to recruits. The man won a national championship. He's doing something right!

Bittersweet to see him balling out. Injuries and poor roster construction wasted his great season for us.

None of those drives he made would have resulted in points against the pistons bulls lakers Celtics in the Larry bird era. VJ would have been smashed to the ground. He was hardly even touched on any of his drives. It's ugly unwatchable basketball and has been for years.

I too loved the Bird era. As a Celtics fan, it was annoying though to see Jordan glide through the lane mostly untouched, and yet if you dared to contest his shot by breathing on him, you were called for a foul. Jordan was obviously one of the best ever, but games seemed to be called differently against him. It seems that's when the hard nosed defenses in the NBA started disappearing.

The Spurs' "Bruise Brothers" The nickname was originally used for a group of six physical San Antonio Spurs frontcourt players in the early 1980s, including Dave Corzine, Reggie Johnson, Paul Griffin, and Kevin Restani.

"Bad Boys" The Detroit Pistons teams of the late 1980s and early 1990s, led by Laimbeer, Mahorn, and others, were collectively known as "The Bad Boys" for their physical and aggressive style of play.

"McFilthy and McNasty" Before coming to Detroit, Rick Mahorn played for the Washington Bullets alongside Jeff Ruland. The duo earned the colorful nickname "McFilthy and McNasty" for their physical brand of basketball.

Think Billy Paultz predates that marketing campaign.

That said, the series of three trades that netted Paultz, Kenon and Gale for Swen Nader and six bench warmers radically altered the organization toward an upward trajectory. And Paultz thriving with a beer hall physique is insane.
