Mavs did not believe they had the money to resign Grimes. It was something or nothing. Kaleb Martin was the something. Cap aside everyone, including the Mavs, had Grimes the better player. Ironically, the market was lower than what Grimes thought and he signed a one year deal with the 76ers for about the same money as Kaleb Martin.
