I really hope we add some big body physical guys and aggressive defenders through the transfer portal. These Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games basically exhibit how necessary it is to have some of those types of players as the officials allow these games to be played at a highly physical level. It also reminds me of how aggressive we were defensively from '19 thru '21.

Crazy how efficient Arizona is on offense without making the 3 ball a major part of their game...really at all.

All 5 players on the floor, including Krivas, are solid passers and dribblers. Just so fundamentally sound.

And for all the talk of how we lost games all year because we got tired and ran out of gas in the 2nd half, here are the minutes played tonight by Arizona's 5 starters (who didn't appear to be too tired):

Bradley - 39 minutes
Kharchenkov - 38 minutes
Krivas - 35 minutes
Peat - 34 minutes
Burries - 33 minutes

I think the 22 team may have been better than the 21 but alas we shall never know

Your last sentence is 100 percent spot on. I always laugh when Baylor fans complain about the way Houston or Iowa State play defensively ... as though we weren't every bit as physical in our best years. Did our fans never watch Mitchell or Vital defend, or are they just the type who never think we commit uncalled fouls?

Good defense requires physicality and intensity. And you have to play on that edge of what is and is not a foul. Officials reward aggression and intensity and will allow more contact if you maintain legal guarding position. If we had more guys who could stay in front of their man, we'd get away with more physicality.

That team is so good offensively. They're a joy to watch on that end of the floor.

Michigan-Arizona is going to be an absolute banger. It will likely decide the title in the Final Four.

The game gets slower when you're the only game on national tv. In Elite 8 games and final 4, coaches can extend playing time for starters because tv breaks are longer. Also, by Saturday night of the tournament you can play to max because you either have a week before the next game or you can rest all summer...

Lack of depth will kill at this level when you have injury or fouls. We were already short handed against Duke last year, but getting fouls on Omier effectively ended a game that was probably over before it started.

Michigan has shown the best top end of anyone all year. If it's best on best for 40 I think they beat Az.

They're doing all this without a very key bench guard that was probably their best shooter.

But Az imo plays harder consistently and has enough balance and physicality to hang. Az lives at the line and Michigan doesn't foul a ton. That stands out to me. Will be very interesting.

Duke's men's and women's teams outscored their opponents by a combined 83-60 in the first halves today.

They were outscored by a combined 83-47 in the second halves.

This one was bad, no doubt.

But last year's Final 4 game took the cake.

Yesterday's outcome ultimately came down to one bad play by a single player.

Despite the loss, it was only in the Elite 8, meaning Duke still had 2 more hurdles to overcome. And with the way they were playing, I doubt they would have cleared both.

Last year was a choke for the ages, however. And the whole team got in on the act.

Houston had ZERO business winning that game. They were down 6 with less than a minute to go, Duke had the ball, and the game was basically over.

About 7-8 things needed to go Houston's way in that final minute for them to pull off that miracle.

Duke Miss at Rim
Sharpe 3 After Stumbling to the Ground
Duke Turnover on Inbounds
Houston Putback Dunk
Duke Misses 1 and 1
Flagg Over the Back Foul on Roberts
Roberts Making Both Free Throws of 1 and 1 (He was Like 60% or so from the Stripe)
Flagg Mid-Range Jumper Miss

If any of those things go the other way, Houston loses.

Plus, Duke would have been huge favorites to beat Florida and win the whole thing.

So for as bad as yesterday was, last year's game was probably as painful as it gets.

Brick one falls. Flemings and Cenac, the other 5 stars, to the NBA draft are next. Get ready, Kelvin. You veered away from your traditional recruiting model and now you're about to find out how other schools have been forced to adjust rosters.
