I loved watching VJ in college last year but I knew he was gonna be even better when he got into the league where he could really showcase his athleticism. He is such an easy guy to pull for.

We've had a number of guys make the league, and more than a few are having good careers, but VJ looks to be the first one that could hit that next level as a pro.

Youngest player in NBA history with a 30 pt 10 rebound game in playoffs.

2nd oldest.. Magic Johnson in the Finals when he replaced an injured Kareem and got 42-15 playing center against the Sixers.

VJ was the youngest player in the history of the NBA to put up 30/10 in a playoff game. The next 2 guys to do it were Magic Johnson and a guy named LeBron James.

Wow! This guy carried us by himself (along with Omier) to the 2nd round of the tourney. Now crushing his rookie season. And he will just keep getting better and better. Great worker, high IQ, with zero entitlement.

VJ should be the Rookie of the Year...but I don't think he will get it.

No, he shouldn't. He's had a great season and is poised to be a star - no doubt. I could see him making a few all-star games and maybe even some all-NBA teams down the line. VJ should be in the conversation for rookie of the year, but I think he should be third at best. But rookie of the year should go to Kneuppel or Flagg (if Dylan Harper played the amount of minutes as Kneuppel or Flagg, I think he'd be in the conversation too).

I agree with everything you said.. but he did have some comments post draft critical of Drew's system.

Not saying that's a character flaw because he's certainly backed it up with his play.

I wasn't aware of that. What were the comments?

He stated he "hates college basketball ' and was critical of the analytics Drew stresses that only allows for layups or threes.

Said mid range game is his strength.

I think it was on Paul George's podcast post draft.

That doesn't bother me at all. Guys are allowed to have their opinions.

He was never anything but coachable and a team player during his season in Waco and always competed hard and with max effort.

He remains one of the easiest Baylor one-and-dones for me to root for.

I think you could support VJ as Rookie of the Year + Team made the playoffs....Didn't just stand at the 3pt line all night (like Kon did).....but he's not the "popular" of the 3......I was fortunate to get to watch all 3 play this year. Good players...

This discussion while debating who should finish first in the voting also reveals that the top picks from last year's draft were NBA ready and will probably have terrific careers.

Flagg may be a unanimous or near unanimous pick, and deservedly so. VJ and Kon have solid enough resumes to have won in years where you don't have Flagg, but Flagg was doing a lot of things no rookie has ever done. I think you can make a good argument for either VJ or Kon to be 2/3.

I just look at the best player. While all three can have great careers, Flagg is the best player of the three. Easily.

Just announced.

Flagg edges out Kon.

Edgecombe distant 3rd.

If you think Kon just shoots threes, you are losing the forest for the trees. He does a ton of movement to get open. Smart player who makes a lot of great choices off ball to get his shots. On top of that, he set a rookie record for most made three pointers and then set a franchise record for most made 3s in a single season AS A ROOKIE.

Flagg was deserving of rookie of the year, but the amount of folks on this board who think Kneuppel is a write off as "just another shooter" is insane. Kon Kneuppel could end up being a Klay Thompson-esque player (but may not play on as good of a team as Klay and likely will not win championships, definitely not with Lamelo in Charlotte), who has had a hall of fame career.

Kon had the award locked up until those horrible performances in the play in tournament .

He was 2-12 and 3-11 from field.. 0-7 from 3 in the elimination loss to Orlando... Sat almost entire 4th qtr and when they needed a 3 in final seconds didn't even get on the court .

Final ballots were due 2 days later.

Edgecombe is the first rookie in NBA history to have:

20+ points
5+ rebounds
5+ 3 pointers

in a Game 7 in NBA history
