What's including in the $100 million price tag? Club and suite levels? What else can it be used for other than being a glorified field house? Who are the architects and what other facilities have they designed? Does anybody have a clue where college basketball is going in the next 5 years? The pros will be drafting high schoolers from 2021 onward.
They also need to plan to spend an additional $10 million every 10 years for updating to a point. These facilities get dated after 1 decade.

$100m is ridiculously too high. $50m or less - construction companies in Waco have been living off the tit of Baylor too long for all of these projects.

8,000-9,000 seating capacity with ability to close off sections to make certain venues more intimate.

Let's get it done. FC needs to be demolished.

Be careful about shortchanging it. That's why the Ferrell Center is a 1980's cookie cutter event center in the first place. *See the Bell County Expo Center, built about the same time.

The original plan to replace the HOT Coliseum was the 12,000 seat Brazos Center, which probably ran twice the price as the FC.

We need to build something unique that is better designed for basketball.

I wouldn't be opposed to a renovation of the FC, but would rather go the Auburn route.

They had an aging Beard-Eaves Coliseum that seated around 13,500 and was built in the late 60s. Most games they had a curtain up to bring capacity down to a more reasonable number of 10,500. They keep the old building open for offices and a few ceremonies, student workout use, etc.

The new Auburn Arena seats just over 9000 with a low roof and a very small upper deck of roughly 5 rows. Very very loud building.

I have no problem with BU lowering capacity, as we would have a better atmosphere. Auburn has a similar problem that BU does in that they depend on out-of-towners to make the games. Make our new one seat 8000-8500, make it an imposing venue for the visiting team. Have a few suites and box seats. Thought put into the student section.

I wouldn't want to break the bank on this thing, but don't cheap out either. Drew and Mulkey deserve this. Find a use for the Ferrell Center.

A multi purpose arena is needed, not a glorified field house.
College basketball will be much different in several years.

What? Why are you saying that? Baylor wants to get away from a special events center and create a unique home court advantage.

The new arena needs to give a significant home court advantage or why do it?

He is saying that with the G league taking stars out of College MBB, then the game will be less "bigtime" needing less specialized arenas. Go budget because the TV money is going down.

It's not going to be the same once the NBA raids those recruiting classes in three years. The top 30 guys in each class are going to go pro like guys go pro in baseball. It will be a different with recruiting.
The NBA already is getting the G-League ready for an entire television broadcast package.
If Baylor builds it right with club levels and suite levels and uses the building daily, it will be worth it.
These arenas need an additional $10 million a decade to update them with technology. The major arenas will be adding gambling devices to bet on games at your seat. It will not happen at Baylor (it will if they want to keep up) but it will every where else and these schools need the money.

I'm really skeptical of the popularity of a G-League television package. Most of these G-League guys are paid $7k/month which is good money compared to playing for college teams but not when you factor in all the benefits associated with college.

If anything, I think football's days could be numbered and college basketball will become even more popular and a vital part of the college experience. You think about Baylor's most beloved players in recent years: Tweety, Quincy Acy, Ish Wainright, Pierre Jackson, Brady Heslip, JMot, Prince, Royce O'Neale those guys aren't going straight to the G-League.

The G-League will be sold to NBA tv partners. ESPN has to broadcast the WNBA. The G-League talent is solid these days. Gatorade and Nike are good tv partners. The pay ranges from $26k-$49k with 10 day contracts for a few guys. Minor league baseball type salaries and these guys NEED money. It's exploitation but it is what the NBA players want because they want service time for higher contracts and earlier free agency.
I expect 30-60 players to turn pro out of high school in a few years. Recruiting is going to be completely different. I understand your excitement because it will level the playing field recruiting wise. The first 50 guys will be scattered among the NBA and G League.
I agree we need a remodel or new facility. The university does not need a building strictly built only for college basketball.
The new facility needs club and suite levels. It needs to be designed well enough to have an enjoyable game day presentation for the fans and concert goers. I would hope Baylor would let us know specifics. The school needs to realize that it costs $10 million a decade to keep it up to date. Our shelf life needs to be more than the Ferrell Center (30 years).
Our competitors are not building arenas.
Norman's city council is LIBERAL and they shot down those developers dreams for Lon Kruger's Palace in Norman (until the LIBERAL city council gets hammered out by the developers). Ou is in bad enough financial shape that Lloyd Noble might have to be fixed up. The won't even be able to fix the Jimmy Carter of athletic facilities. The popcorn from Elvis Presley concerts are still grinded into the floor.
