Absent an early season ending injury I don't think a redshirt is available in basketball.after playing in one or more games.But,Something new may have been created since I had NCAA legislation involvement.The play in up to 4 games and still redshirt rule was a football only piece.It was actually a compromise.The AFCA (Coach Teaff)had proposed 5 years of eligibility and doing away with all of the redshirt rules for football.

That could make sense. I think the basketball regular (non-medical) redshirt rules are (weirdly) a lot stricter than football. It would make sense they would dress her out for emergency situations but not play her otherwise if they were viewing a redshirt. I had assumed before this game she was just struggling to get playing time behind Smith, Egbo, and Bickle, but when walk-on player went in with 4 minutes left in game I got really curious.

The current rule for basketball is that a single game burns your redshirt, but the A10 has filed a waiver request for this year that would allow a player to appear in 4 games due to COVID emergency contingencies. If approved the waiver would apply to all D1 institutions. Approval appears only a formality, so Gillespie could be looking at a 4-game threshold. Also, there is a proposal awaiting approval to make a 6 or 8 game redshirt threshold to mimic the limitations set for football. That proposal could be made a rule as early as next year, but will not be in force for the 2021-22 season.

The medical redshirt requirement was adjusted a few years ago so that to be eligible, the student-athlete must be injured in the first half of the team's season, and must have appeared in 30% (used to be 20%) or less of the teams full season total of contests. So, if a team plays 30 games, the player must be injured in the first 15 games, and must not have participated in more than 9 games to qualify.

Totally dominating game today. We won every team stat today except for free throw percentage and we shot those pretty well. Super confidence builder for the team and coaching staff and a great game for the memory banks. If we hit a bump in the road or an off game, we'll have this one to draw on to know we can play with anyone when we play like this.

I hadn't really noticed Gillispie playing this year but I just looked at box scores and it turns out she played in every non-close game through North Texas on December 29. So maybe she had a harder time with COVID than the others and they are not wanting to put her in yet because of that.

My favorite was watching Bickle coach her up on the free throw line to set up her shot

She will get more chances & hopefully make some. Would be great for her & for the team.

unless she is hurt or sick, she needs to relieve some playing time of your starters, when we are up by 25... We have several back to back games to play because they were postponed for covid., so we need to keep our players as fresh as possible.. lots of games coming, 4 in nine days.. !!!

Congratulations on an amazing win Coach NC and team. This performance today is a glimpse of what this team can be and shows the improvement and buy in since the beginning of the season. Breathing a sigh of relief today. it's the internet. Short hand and typos are normal and don't matter. Unless u can't actually understand what a user said, then it doesn't matter how it was typed. And a college education doesn't equal good grammar

You're right - it should have been your elementary, middle, and high school education that would have taught you proper grammar. Poor grammar, regardless of setting, makes it difficult for me to take someone seriously.

THE TEAM DEFENSE WAS OUTSTANDING. Yes we gave some wide open threes because of some rotations but the defense was so intense i loved watching it. Jaden Owens is starting to shine Bickle drawing the charges were great. Queen was killer even with her shot not falling we couldn't take her off the floor. The P and R was working a lot last night. We showed our strength is athleticism and we are maybe one of the most athletic teams post and guards i would say in the country. no we don't have a moon vertical but all of our guards are fast. And Jordan mannnnnn she can be a beast in the post season for us. i know shots won't always fall like they did but the movement on offense was giving us great opportunities to score. And when Queen is rebounding like that you don't have to worry about missing a shot. I love it

A lot of good post. Team and coaching accomplished their mission. Great game. Early in the game we passed up some open 3s, and I was getting concerned that our 3 shooters lacked confidence. However, our 3 shooters started to light it up. I'll give credit to coaches telling then to take the open shot, and shooters for listening.

One of the most encouraging things to me was the way our guards were driving to the basket in the 4th qtr. I don't know if ISU was tired, discouraged or all of the above, but we were just blowing by them.

yeah i think ISU had height on us but man we were for more athletic and i think our actions on offense and defense showed that perfectly.

This win isn't surprising, because it's what we should've been doing.

This is the main reason why I can't get behind the "she was left with less than blah blah blah"

This team currently constructed is good enough to beat and compete with the best (thin or not).

Great team win for the ladies as well! Let's keep it up!

It seems pretty clear that the team took a real hit from COVID & now they are back to full strength (or close anyway). This bodes well for the rest of the season. If they can maintain their energy & momentum they should be back atop the conference soon. But the schedule will be grueling with no rest for the weary. I hope that doesn't cause problems especially with our lack of depth.

THAT was a great call. Smith much bigger, longer reach, and good footwork. The one time she did get beat by Joens on the dribble, Bickle was there to take the charge.
