ON THE LINE
• Baylor and Iowa State are tied atop the Big 12 standings. The winner of Monday's game clinches a share of the Big 12 regular-season title.

TURNING POINT
• Baylor was alone in last place of the Big 12 standings (0-2) heading into Lawrence on Jan. 16. After a gutsy comeback that featured a 7-0 run in the final 24 seconds of the game to clinch their first conference win of the season at Kansas, the Bears have been playing a different level of ball.
• In the 14 (10-4) games before the KU game, BU averaged 74.5 points, 15.9 assists and 14.1 turnovers per game. Baylor assisted on 59.3 percent of its baskets. In the 14 (13-1) games since, the Bears are averaging 78.9 points (+4.4), 19.4 assists (+3.5) and 12.1 turnovers (-2.0) per game. BU is assisting on 68 percent of its buckets.

SHARE THE SUGAR
• Baylor is top 10 in the country - and third among Power 5 teams - with 63.8 percent of its buckets assisted on this season.
• Adding to that, the Bears are sixth in the country - and first in the Big 12 - in assist-to-turnover ratio.

WALKING DOUBLE-DOUBLE
• NaLyssa Smith is eighth in the country with 19 double-doubles on the season. That mark ties her for third in BU history for double-doubles in a single season.
• Smith is fourth in program history with 47 career double-doubles. She's two away from tying Maggie Davis-Stinnett (1986-89, 1990-91)
• The senior is averaging 21.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game which ranks No. 11 and No. 15 in the country, respectively. She is the only player in the country who is averaging 21+ points and 11+ rebounds per game.

LET IT FLY
• Baylor's program record for triples made came on Dec. 18, 2019 against Arkansas State when Juicy Landrum caught fire and set an NCAA record with 14 triples. Besides that record-setting performance, BU hadn't drained more than a dozen shots from deep since 2011.
• BU's record for 3-point attempts in a season came in 2013-14 when the Bears attempted 596 3s.
• From that season to 2020-21, Baylor made 10 or more 3-pointers in a game only five times across a total of 281 games (1.78 percent). BU has done so five times this season.
• At Kansas, Baylor nearly set a record with a 14-for-29 display from the perimeter. BU's 14 treys marked the second most in program history.
• Prior to this year, only 14 Bears had made six or more 3s in a game. Two of them had done it multiple times (Makenzie Robertson, 2012, 2014) and Jennifer King (1990, 1991, 1993).
• Sarah Andrews and Ja'Mee Asberry have already joined that elite club this season. Andrews went 6-for-8 against Morehead State and from deep and Asberry fired off 6-of-8 against Alcorn State. Asberry then went 6-for-11 at Kansas, and Andrews set a career-high with a 7-for-10 mark.• Andrews' seven 3s tied for third in program history. She is now one of six Bears in program history to hit a minimum of seven triples in a game
• Jordan Lewis joined the club with her 6-of-7 performance against Iowa State.
• Baylor - with 188 3s on the season - has the third-highest 3pointer total for a single season in program history.
• Asberry is fourth in program history with 65 3s made this season.

historian, I don't think they were so much CNC haters, but perhaps just Mack Rhoades haters. And I can't understand why. The guy is recognized as one of the best ADs in the country. NC just happened to be the pawn in the game.

I find it interesting that thus far I have seen no comments from two of our biggest Debbie Downers, the two Bobs (probably the same guy). Perhaps the negative comments in October were sincere in believing the program was being thrown into the trash can, were veiled attempts to put across the message of how dare anyone think that someone else besides KM could lead Baylor WBB without a significant and immediate drop off, or whether it was just the same knee-jerk reactions that a few games early in the season doom a team and program to failure (as was also done with Rhule and Aranda). When are we going to understand this is not factual. It is not the way it works in life and not the way it works in sports when you have people willing to work to a better end.

This year was going to be a fight even if KM had stayed. Of course, if she had stayed the team would not have had the lack of depth that we have had all season. But I dare say before the flamers flame, I do not believe that any could have accomplished any more this year with this team to this point if they also had to deal with the roster limitations, the player losses from last year, sudden coaching change, and other distractions that we have had, not to mention the negativity that came from this board and elsewhere that weighed on not only the players, but the coaches, many even before we played a game. If you don't think it wasn't there or wasn't heard by the team, you need to listen to the post game press conference from last night. The players deserve this championship. Some fans, not so much.

Of course, this year proves nothing for the long term, just like some bad starts to a season don't foretell a poor year. But the players who were surprisingly basically thrown under the bus during the off season were able to come together with a determination and led by a flexible coaching staff, to accomplish what they have done. No, CNC is not a HOF coach, but neither was KM her first year here. We certainly are starting off on the right foot. My hope right now is that the legs hold out long enough to allow this team to go as far as their determination and skills will take them.

There is a shot (2:54) of NaLyssa, Bickel, & Egbo embracing after the game. They are 3/5 of the "Fierce Five" recruiting class from four years ago. It was touching to see and it made me so happy for them and all of Baylor Nation. They are part of a legendary run of success, which isn't over, and I'm happy to have witnessed it. I'm so glad that they are Baylor Bears!

I felt bad for her for one second. Then I remembered how Kristy Wallace's senior night ended and quickly got over it. There are worse things than fouling out of a game.

I doubt many of the "still CKM supporters" (aka Mack haters) are going to like to hear this but, one of the best things to happen for Nalyssa Smith was the departure of CKM and arrival of CNC. The shift to the pro-style, more open offense, allowed Smith to truly display her All-American talent as the season went on and the players both embraced and learned how to run the multiple schemed offenses that CNC has designed.

In the past, while clearly successful for Baylor, that system would have relegated and suffocated Nalyssa to being a high post/low post player for the entirety of her senior year. She has truly flourished this past year as the National POY IMO.

Nicki got a standing ovation from most when she arrived at the TOC luncheon today. Unfortunately, the sourpusses at the table directly in front of her refused to even look at her, much less stand and/or applaud. Makes me even more appreciative for being raised in a home where good manners, respect for others, and just basic human decency were learned by example.

A couple of things we found definitely impressive in Nicki's comments. She addressed our lack of depth and the top 150 players with the most minutes. I believe she said 3 are on the Iowa State team. You know how many in the top 150 are on our basically 7-player squad? NONE.

Another thing she talked about was how coming from the WNBA she is used to conditioning her team for a short turnaround time. This explains why our girls' exceptional stamina is apparent, I thought especially in that Iowa State game.

We got a heck of a coach in Nicki Collen, folks.

Aw, come on Lynnp550. Those people in front just wanted to make sure they didn't block the view of those behind them or drown out applause coming from behind them. - I definitely agree with your last statement. I also agree with the statement concerning Smith in a post above. This offense has allowed her to shine.

You seem to be implying that there are people who belong to the TOC but they despise NC so much they won't even look at her, or stand or applaud? Can't imagine belonging to the TOC and not even wanting to see the coach.

Not to rain on your parade but Kim did want Smith to transition to the 3. It was joked about in a couple of games in the ncaa tournament that Kim asked smith if she wants to transition to the 3 but smith liked being the 4. Kim knows that smith will make it at the next level at the 3 spot. I'm sure that if Kim stayed, she would've told smith that in order to make it at the next level she'll need to play the 3 more.

Both Kim and Nicki knows what it takes to make it to the next level! They just have different ways but it's still both effective

I agree. Nicki's style of offense has allowed Nalyssa to really expand her game. This will serve Nalyssa very well in WNBA. With her talent Nalyssa would have gone high in draft regardless of coach, but not sure she would be in discussion for # 1 pick without Nicki. Caitlyn, Sarah and Jaden have also greatly improved their games under Nicki and this system.

That is what we observed, Our table was right behind theirs. Their table was directly in front of CNC. Sometimes human nature is absolutely confounding. On the upside, Nicki responded to several excellent questions and as usual I think all of us gained more understanding of her program. Safe to say most of us left even more impressed with our new coach.
