Merriweather is the first former Bearcat player to lead her old team.
UC athletic director John Cunningham said
"It became very clear that she was absolutely the right fit. It was great timing for us going into the Big 12 to have a little bit of a shot in the arm. That's what she's been able to provide both from the recruiting standpoint and from the community engagement standpoint."

Merriweather played four seasons and was a grad assistant under UC Hall of Famer Laurie Pirtle. Pirtle is the all-time wins leader at UC with 310 and is also in the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.

Merriweather made 27 career starts, including 22 in her senior season, and played in 107 games. She helped lead the program to an 83-41 record in her four seasons. UC made NCAA appearances in 1999 with Merriweather as a player and in 2002 when she was a grad assistant.

As a coach at Memphis the last two seasons
She won three of four including a season sweep this past season.

Want to see this league consistently trend upwards in women's basketball. For the new schools this year, more money coming in from conference affiliation means bigger athletics budget. Upgrades in in facilities and coaches' salaries, along with more national exposure, should help recruiting, and therefore, competition levels.

The ex PAC schools coming in with the next wave will help with the strength of conference, as well. Would like to get back to being a top conference. We have a ways to go, but seem to at least be beginning the journey….
