"Down 67-62 with 15.6 seconds remaining, KU's Holly Kersgieter drained a three-pointer from the left corner to make the game 67-65 with 10.7 seconds on the clock. After a pair of missed UT free throws, Kansas called timeout yet had an entry pass stolen, ending the scoring threat. The Jayhawks would not get a shot off on its final two possessions with the clock winding down."

Well polls are so weird and they seem weirder this year than ever. So much more parity no one knows what to do. Baylor beat both ISU and OU yet they ranked we not. We also have a win over Villanova.

We lost to Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Texas in of two weeks. 2 of those three losses are considered bad losses. Can't lose multiple games you should win - especially back-to-back - and expect to be ranked. We beat #12. Let's see if we can also beat #16. Win two this week and we'll be ranked.

It's not. Top to bottom it's better than the SEC (which has 2 elite teams, maybe 2-3 ok teams, and 9-10 awful teams), but it's more of a case of no elite teams, a couple of good but not elite, 3-4 ok, and 3-4 awful. They are just bunched together more than in past seasons because the one consistently great one is no more.

BTW, here are Big12 NCAA seedings for the past 10 tournaments:

2022: 2, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9
2021: 2, 4, 6, 7, 8
2020: none
2019: 1, 3, 7, 9
2018: 2, 2, 9, 12
2017: 1, 3, 6, 6, 7, 9
2016: 1, 2, 6, 6, 7, 9
2015: 2, 5, 5, 10, 10
2014: 2, 2, 5, 5, 7, 10
2013: 1, 5, 6, 7, 7, 11, 12
2012: 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11

Most recent bracket prediction for Big 12 (which predates Saturday's disaster in Stillwater and IowaSt's continued slide) has:

3 UT
5 IowaSt
6 OU
6 BU
8 KU
9 OkSt

Only UT would host; the only year that only one Big12 team hosted since they went back to playing 1st/2nd round on campus was 2015.

Expect IowaSt and BU to fall and OU/OkSt to rise in the next bracket.

I don't think the XII has ever gotten much notice from "those in the know". Just because Baylor was winning the league by 3 games didn't mean the other teams were not good. Although, in some years when we got to the SS or Elite8 those in the know might have thought that as it didn't look like we had had enough good competition to be prepared for what we faced. But even there, a loss at that stage is too small a data point to prove anything.

Outside of the Arizona game, we played very competitive games against two on the list (MD and MI) and beat another (Villanova). Don't know about the other XII teams in non-conference. With how parity has taken over it is hard to judge teams across conferences. But history has said that the XII was not thought much of by "those in the know" for some time now.

I am not disagreeing with your premise that we have been ignored in the past and will likely be in the future. I just think there are not many who really understand WBB or follow it enough to have a reasonable opinion on rankings.

Villanova got beat by us and ISU (not to mention Creighton) yet they are up to 14 in the AP poll you can't tell me that is not just an attempt to bump up UCON's WBB's SOS. how you can possibly compare the third through 5th place teams in the major conferences and arbitrarily. rank some but not the others is silly. Pac, SEC B10 B12 and ACC look at those teams' records and they are all comparable. Like pulling out of a hat. SEC and Big 12 teams at that level very comparable...actually us and ACC are the only two conferences without a top one or two that would be considered elite. See SEC, Pac and Big 10 Based on ranked teams you would have to agree this year we are regarded as the weakest conference.

Most likely is that every team in the Big 12 that goes to the NCAA tournament will be under seeded. In the first or second round, many of the 2-6 seeds coaches are going to complain in their post game losing press conference that their Big 12 opponent was way under seeded and wanting to know how that happened.

Big12 records against nonconference opponents likely to make the tourney (excluding minor conference autobids):

UT: 0-4 (UConn, Marquette, USF, Lville)
OU: 1-1 (L to Utah, W Ole Miss)
IowaSt: 1-2 (W Villanova, L Iowa, L UNC)
OkSt: 1-1 (W FlaSt, L Purdue)
BU: 1-3 (W Villanova, L MD, L Mich, L Ariz)
KU: 1-1 (W Ariz, L Neb)
WV: 1-1 (W UGa, L NCSt)
TT: 1-0 (W Colo)
KSt: 1-2 (W Iowa, L Ark, L SDakotaSt)

That's a combined 8-15; 5-12 by teams likely to make the NCAAs.

The conference's marquee noncon win is KansasSt over #7 Iowa. Creme currently has Iowa as a 2 seed. KSt is not under consideration.

The next best wins are BU and IowaSt over #14 Villanova. Creme currently has Villanova as a 4 seed.

Marquette, Nebraska and Georgia are all currently listed as Last Four In. WV and TT are currently listed as Next Four Out.
