Never thought she'd coach that long, this contract would put her over 70 yrs old when it runs out. She is all about power & money though, she's proven that, so who knows?
You left out winning.

KM is not driven by $$, she is driven by success and winning. She did not ask for more $$ when she left Baylor. She told LSU AD to pay her what she is making at Baylor, and she'll accept the LSU job. KM did not initiate or ask for $$ with her new $36 mil contract extension. It was initiated by the AD, not KM. AD said there were programs interested in KM after winning the NC, he didn't take any chances, he took the initiative to ensure she stays another 10 years.
The impact of KM and WBB in BRouge and LA is huge. LSU is at the top of WBB NILs since she arrived at LSU. She immediately hired assistant coach 2 years ago when NIL started to oversee NILs and help the athletes maximize their earnings. She is a fund raising monster, she did it at Baylor for WBB, and also helped raised funds for the new Baylor BB facility. KM and WBB had major impact on Waco economy. She put Baylor on the map after 3 natl championships. She had millionaires from TX and LA to donate to Baylor's WBB when they were not Baylor alum or WBB fans. She can sell sand to an Arab.
Our family will always support NC and donate to WBB, but Baylor made a big mistake letting KM leave. She would have stayed at Baylor until retirement.

You're right. As I stated initially she is driven by power & control. She took her ball & went home because she realized the current AD was not going to let her walk all over him like spineless Ian did. Its really very simple.

Kim wanted to leave Baylor. She is happier at LSU. What's done is done….After 3 years we need to move on from the past…. It is definitely time to move on, Kim certainly has.

She did not want to leave Baylor. Our AD and Prez did not want her and chased her out. KM had said she wanted to stay and retire at Baylor, she loves Baylor and still has family (daughter and grandchildren) living in Waco. We owe her a lot for a winning culture and 3 natl championships. Our family remembers when WBB was horrible prior to KM. We should not forget her and move on, our past with KM made us the powerhouse that we are today. We should be thankful and praise her for dedicating 21 years to Baylor. She deserves a statue outside the new BB facility.

And our current AD is not very good, but yes, he is very arrogant.

The AD is the boss, and team sport coaches are subordinates. Kim didn't appear to know this; she took her ball and went home when Mack made it clear. Its very simple people.

Yes we should move on. I think most fans are thankful for what Kim
did for the program. Regardless of why she left, Kim is very happy and doing well at LSU. Nicki is our future. After 3 years we need to focus on future not the past……..

And the good AD's learn to get along with their coaches and not run off Hall of Famers and not let their egos get away n the way of winning National Championships!!

A good example of how this "works" in the real world is Apple hiring John Sculley and Sculley forcing out Steve Jobs.

Apple wouldn't exist and wouldn't be dominant in the industry today without Steve Jobs but John Scully was THE BOSS! LOL

There's a reason why the famous Theodore Roosevelt quote gives credit to the "man in the arena" and not the "paper shuffler whose job is to fill out the employee evaluation forms."

Well she is a proven winner. Mack, not so much. He was fired from Missouri, you know.

Mack left Missouri for Baylor. He wasn't fired.

I wish Mulkey was still here but I don't know what you expect Baylor to do. She went to the President's home uninvited and screamed at her. After previously throwing a fit at the AD's office. She was guilty of gross insubordination after years of being a poor team player within the athletic department. Her treatment of Scott Drew was ridiculous. A little humility and self-awareness would make Mulkey a better person and employee.

The whole billboard thing is what soured me on KM. I could support KM and also support Coach Collen. I love what she did for Baylor but it was a little petty.

Kim is a great coach, but no statue. Have to stay to get the statue. She did not cooperate with the building of the new stadium, even publicly opposing its location. So nope to the statue. LSU can build her one.

So if Drew ever leaves he doesn't deserve a statue?? That's silly. I'm not huge on statues but if there was ever someone who deserved one it's Mulkey she created a monster at BU that hopefully CNC continues

KM did not put up any of the billboards in TX, it was LSU alum who did it. She didn't know about it until afterwards. So you can relay your sourness towards the LSU alum millionaires. Lol.

Stay? She gave 21 years of her head coaching career to Baylor. She is getting a statue at LA Tech next week, she won 2 natl championships as a player and 1 NC as an assistant coach. What does she have to do to get a statue at Baylor? Let's see if our current coach can win 3 NC's the next 10 years. KM helped with fundraising in the beginning for the new BB facility, but later on she found out the building was going to be built offsite. She wanted it on campus so the students can walk to the building. That was the contention between KM and the AD.

She should definitely get a statue. 3 NCs. When will another Baylor WBB coach get that?

I totally agree. A coach that leaves for another school , regardless of reason, should not get statue. I am not sure that any school has ever put up statue for coach who left a program.

Retire, you get the statue. After three nattys u just don't walk. I have a personal letter handwritten from KM telling me she would retire at BU. The fan base had been so good to her and the Waco community so supportive. But she walked even while she had a president who was a serious wbb player and fan. She walked. Her way or the Highway, so she hit the road. No statue for a tuck tail and run coach. And why did she never retire Griner's jersey? I would have. Still would. KM did not hand out accolades to those who she thought turned on her. She kept score. Still does. The score says no statue at BU for KM. Lots of appreciation and fond memories. Statues are reserved for Geno and Pat who stayed true blue to their fan base. I am fascinated by Kim's success, and wish her the best. But the statue belongs at LSU. Few wives are buried beside their first husbands after a divorce. No monument, statues, or head stones apply here.

Per Baylor WBB to Kim: "We are who we are because of you. Thank you Coach." These 2 sentences alone speaks volumes. I guess I am one of only a handful of Baylor fans/Baylor donors who believes she deserves a statue. I guess 3 nat'l championships, 21 straight tournaments, and powerhouse recognition doesn't deserve a statue.
Our family doesn't really care if she left, not retired at Baylor. f people could go back to pre-2000 before KM and see how miserably bad WBB was, they would be much more thankful where we are today because of KM effect. Noone in the country knew about Baylor sports then. If 500 fans showed up at the WBB games, it was a good night. I know, our family was there.

The fact that anyone is advocating a stature this early after her departure is a clear sign they have not properly grieved her leaving. Just refuse to let go. Living in the past is painful and denies you the real hope of today. Engage with NOW. Let's hope NC wins so much we eventually build both statues side by side. But the present, 2 years after she slams the door and bolts is not proper chronos. The chronos (time) might one day come, it might never come, much of it is up to KM herself. But this anachronistic discussion about building her a statue now is quite puzzling. There is a wrong time to build a statue, when it is evidence of clinging to the past and is damaging to the future. There may or may not be a right time, a time to reflect on the pleasant past, but a discussion now about something that might fit our narrative 20 years from now is unproductive. Kim divorced us and walked out leaving a loyal fan base and a fair paycheck. Building statues to egotistical behavior is anything but virtuous or beautiful.

Fred,
You are out of line. You are now our family's psychiatrist telling us how we feel, how we should act, and that there is something wrong with us for being positive, thankful to a coach for winning 3 natl championships and creating a natl powerhouse? You need to look hard at yourself for being negative/resentful towards a coach leaving after 21 years.

We didn't suggest to put up a statue right now, but if WBB decides to honor her with a statue at the new facility in 5-10 years that would be a good thing for Baylor. Our 5-families (3 generations) have supported and donated to WBB over 30 years since 1990s. Everyone in our families is donating more $$ than ever to Coach NC and the current team, because we are hopeful and excited about the future. The past of KM's success is why we are a top-10 powerhouse today, and she deserves honor and recognition for what she accomplished, not hate and resentment for leaving.

Did not mean to offend. My apologies. Just want us to move forward. We may all be ready later, just not now. Need to focus on the coach and team we have. Glad you are doing that. Apologies if you took it personal.

Most fans are very grateful to Kim for what she did for WBB. However I do not see any scenario now or in the future where a statue of Kim will be in front of Foster Arena.

Bear3,
When fans go to games at the new arena, I assume they'll put up and show off the 3 National Champion banners? So what coach do you and others think of when you see those 3 National Champion banners, do you think of Coach NC or do you think of KM? Love her or hate her, KM is the coach responsible for those 3 banners. We can brag about being top 10 elite team every year, and KM is responsible for that too. She should be forever recognized and rewarded for those accomplishments on behalf of Baylor.
Having followed & supported Baylor WBB for over 30 years, I personally don't believe that we will have another coach who will win 3 natl championships again. I like and support Coach NC, but I don't believe she will stay and retire at Baylor.

Acknowledge what she did in Waco, impossible to ignore. She shouldn't be ignored. Make a nice exhibit in the new basketball arena with three pics of CKM holding the three nattys. Show her won/loss record and list the accolades she received during her tenure at BU. Ask her exactly why she left for LSU, and put that up there, too. Full transparency. She's already got her well-deserved statue at LA Tech as legendary student/ athlete, nattys, and assistant coach. Taking the BU job was a promotion--as she often said LA Tech wouldn't agree to her contract demands--so they shouldn't be bitter about that. LSU is likely already planning a statue, so there will be two of her out there for birds to poop on.

Kim has an insatiable need for accolades and personal recognition. Part of her cognitive make-up. One can never put up enough statues or name enough courts to satisfy her ego cravings. Her psychological make-up creates a great coach with a 24/7 work ethic and an insatiable desire to win. She will always win and never get lazy or satisfied. The down side of this type personality is that they require 24/7 praise, always need to be told they are the best ever. Or they seek a new voice to sing their praises. LSU gave her a whole choir! I hope she passes Pat Summit in championships, but mostly one day hope she finds the internal contentment with her own excellent resume and no longer has a need for the world to blow her trumpet.
