Big 12 Women's Basketball Opponent Matrix Released for 2025 Season

IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced the opponent matrix for the 2024-25 season on Thursday morning.

Moving into the 16-team era of the league, programs will face six teams exclusively at home or on the road with a home-and-away assignment between three other squads.

BU will see Houston, TCU and Colorado both in the Foster Pavilion and on the road in 2025. The layout marks the second-straight year in a home-and-away format with Houston while returning to Fort Worth after a home-only stint in 2024. 2010 was the final time Baylor faced Colorado at home before playing in Boulder for the last time during the 2011 season.

BYU, Utah, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati and West Virginia will all come to Waco, while the Bears hit the road to face Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech and UCF.

Cincinnati and BYU will visit Waco for the first time as part of the league schedule and the Utah Utes make their second trip to Central Texas in as many years after last season’s non-conference defeat of the then-No. 4 team in the nation, 84-77.

Baylor’s 2025 road slate features three new conference destinations, visiting two of the Big 12’s newest members in Tempe and Tucson while seeing UCF for the first time in Orlando.

Opponents were selected based on a combination of geography, historical results and a poll of the coaches to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness. A full Big 12 schedule will be released at a later date.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Why only 18 conference games instead of 20 like the men?

I believe it is because the women's BIG 12 tourney is now being played one week earlier than the men's.

Makes sense. Thanks, 605!

Then wouldn't it make sense to maybe start the season 1 week earlier?

Also, not sure why the Big 12 wants to make this difficult, but the Texas teams should all play home and homes. Replace Colorado with Texas Tech, and slot everyone else as they see fit.

It would be easier for all Texas teams to play home and homes. But from a recruiting and marketing standpoint, it's better to spread travel out home and homes. Maybe if the conference was divided up into divisions it would make more sense, but as it is I think they've created a good template.
