I'm glad she will soon be part of the team and joining the Baylor family. I don't think the coaches would have accommodated her transfer if they didn't believe she could contribute to the team. This is certainly more important now that Jana is out for the year.

I am cautiously optimistic. Hopefully she won't fall into the seemingly Baylor 3-point curse. We have had several transfers come in that were relatively prolific 3-point shooters at their old school and then they come here and can't seem to recreate their 3-point percentage from their old school.

Was nice to see her history at steals.

Yes, but we have also seen the opposite (T'ea). She is really good at getting to the rim and also appears to be able to make mid range shots. I'm hopeful that she will be able to help us at all three levels while providing a very good defensive presence. I would love to see a rotation of Kyla in back with Bella and DLB on the wings with Jada and Aliyah and see how well this combination could shut down an opposing teams offense. could even substitute Waiata for DLB.

That seems like it could be a really nasty defense with a little time and experience together. Could even have Vonleigh back there as long as fresh. Would pick up fouls if playing fatigued.

What is her likely first game as a Bear?

Next game as the earliest a week from now. It's that or December 21. Florida completed their semester. This it makes me think sooner rather than January 1.

She will be graduating from Florida Dec 15/16. She can't show up at Baylor until after she graduates. Then she'll come to Baylor to register, get checked in, etc. Do y'all think she can quickly look at film, practice with the team, and be ready to play in the game couple days later on Dec 21?

Well we have seen athletes not in person for graduations. I'm just saying what Nicki Collen literally said on Matt Mosley show last week when said December 18 or 21 as earliest.

The "practice with the team and be ready to play" is the key phrase. Undoubtedly she has been looking at plenty of film and already knows the "play book" so to speak. I suspect the skids have been greased as well concerning the registering and getting situated. It is a question of when she can function with the team to be an asset and not cause turnovers because of the players not being familiar with her and her with them. But if she can function with the team anywhere close to her past reputation, this should be a very improved team when/if that occurs. Hopefully at a minimum it overcomes the loss of Jana in terms of production and reducing tired legs for the team.

I can personally guarantee that she has Nicki's playbook and all the video's she needs to see the actions and secondary actions. She has been working out at a local gym and will be "IN GAME SHAPE' from day one.She WANTS to play for Nicki !!!

She was at the game last weekend, sitting in the stands with Jana. Hopefully she is starting to build camaraderie with the team off the court as well.

I saw Jana sitting in the end zone and I was curious why she was not on the bench so I went over to say hi and ask how she is doing and Jana introduced me to her and that is how I got the information I shared in my posting.
(Aliyah per rules cannot be on the bench until her eligibility at Baylor is approved)
She is VERY personable !!! and seems to be highly motivated. I asked her "what took her so long to come over to the BU WBB Family" She shrugged her shoulders and laughed and said "well I am here now" ........Well better late than never" I said and welcomed her to the Baylor Family. She flashed an even bigger smile and said THANK YOU.
Jana said everything went well surgery wise and she was upbeat but really missed being on the court !!

That is what I've been trying to say. She is not on Baylor team yet, cannot sit on the bench, cannot practice, etc. She has to first graduate from Florida--technically she is still under their scholarship until she graduates Dec 15/16. Afterwards, she will check in at Baylor and get her scholarship, classes, and eligibility approved. Schools and NCAA are strict about this. Had family member at another school who went thru similar athletic transfer.

Love it! Thank you for the additional information. Sounds like she is going to be a great fit!

One small clarification - by working out at a local gym I should have said she is working out at a local gym in Florida while she finishes up her business in Florida.

Thanks Blue for this info on your interaction with her. Love reading this type of post. She sounds like a good player, good fit for our team. Can't wait to watch her play (sooner the better). And also hope Jana recovers quickly.

If Coach N starts her at the Kansas game tomorrow, 5 days after arriving on campus, she will be a superstar player. This will be her 1st game of the year.

Coach N said she would see the floor as soon as she was eligible.
Nicki said Aliyah played offense with a number of similar concepts at Florida and defensive assignments at Texas.

Yep. Pretty much a quote of what she said at Tipp-off luncheon.
