I can no longer attend any events due to my physical issues. But for those that can should get their buttes up and go support these Ladies. The attendance was pathetic as I watched it on the TV.
I'd give anything to get to attend a game again. But for those who claim to be Baylor fans and supporters. prove it..

If out of state, cost to go to only one WBB game for 2 people:
2 tickets to game
$900 - $1,000 round-trip airfare to Waco
$400 - $500 hotel
$300 - $400 rental car
$500 meals

Would you spend this much to attend one game in Waco?

Better attendance would not have changed the outcome today. I was there, and it wasn't even close in the second half. There was nothing to cheer about!

No, but there are many fans in Waco area who could support team in person more.

It's going to be tough to build back buzz for this team for the middle to borderline fan. Hardcore not tough. But, is NC building interest for those fans? Finishing 4-6 in the conference? She has a big hill to climb, but it is on her to do it. She has had 4 seasons to develop a program. she does have talent, but enough?? With her own coaching issues (and losing 2 staff already) I m not sure she can drive attendance change. With foster there is less seating for students m, so they can't drive home court advantage. We need more people and thst leads to better product on the court. That's on NC. And the players. We can see going forward. I was concerned with smaller student ticket sections. But, win and it changes.

Honestly, this is so overreacting lol.

The only thing that sounds about right is the roundtrip plane tickets for 2 people….but $400-500 for a hotel is false, $300-400 for a rental car for a few days averages about $75 a day and you aren't staying a week just to watch WBB, and lastly $500 for food…no way in hell are you paying that in Waco.

Im typically with you on most post, but this was a severe overreaction

3 days 3 meals per day for 2 people, bfast lunch and dinner. You can't cook at hotel. We don't eat fast food McDonalds, Burger King, etc. It adds up $400-$500 at restaurants simple meals 3 meals per day for 3 days for 2 people. Add food/drinjs at the game. Add food/drinks at airports. It does add up. Point is you really can only go to one WBB game, or one MBB game, or one FB game if you're coming from out of state.

This is still a wild overstatement - if it were me, I would be flying in to Dallas or Austin, renting a car there, and driving in for the game. Maybe one night in a hotel that includes breakfast, and you certainly don't have to stay in the fanciest hotel in Waco. You can also find plenty of sit down meal options for a reasonable amount.

Unfortunately in all sports Baylor has a lot of very "fair weather " fans. If teams encounter "a rough patch ", attendance drops off in a big way. It is not this way at all schools ie Nebraska, Iowa State, West Virginia.

Everyone wants a winner but it would be nice to support our teams more if they go through a "rough patch ".

All of those schools are bigger than Baylor. The closest is West Virginia, which has an enrollment of 8,000 higher than Baylor.

I don't think there is a significant difference in the support of the average Baylor fan versus anywhere else, but the more people you have, the easier it is to fill stadiums.

The availability of being able to watch all games on TV or streaming is affecting everyone's attendance. As long as it doesn't affect schools' bottom lines (getting more from media than losing on ticket and concession sales), I can't see that changing. Outside of those that will / can attend regardless, most schools' attendance is going to be driven by success on the field / court and even then you can see empty seats. It is not just at Baylor. Plus because of the economy and ticket prices, it is just not high enough on the priority list to spend money needed for other and more required needs for a large segment of the population.

Cornhusker sports are the biggest draw in Nebraska, and the same for Mountaineer sports in West Virginia. When I attended a football game at Jack Trice stadium in Ames I was surrounded by corn farmers who drove in for games from across that small state (most drove no more than two hours). Iowa State sports, especially men's and women's basketball, are among the biggest draws in the state. There is not an equivalent comparison with Baylor sports, where local and area fans are expected by some to get rear ends in the seats for every sports event. The Foster presents mobility issues for me that did not exist at the Ferrell Center. Over half the older friends we have who were season ticket holders for Lady Bears games did not renew when the Foster opened. Younger fans and those with funds to do so will have to pick up the slack. I don't expect that to happen with current dynamics. There are new realities that are much discussed on this forum. Current administration seems to be satisfied. I will continue to watch some online and on TV and support from a distance. Most of the fun and excitement has gone out of Baylor WBB for me, but I will support anyway.

I don't know what to say.

Women's basketball was never popular at Baylor to begin with. I remember going to games in the mid-1990's and there were more people on the floor than there were in the stands. We definitely had more crickets in the Ferrell Center at that time than fans, especially for midweek games.

So, you take January 1, when people are still celebrating, add a program that is free-falling from its elite status, and you got rid of an immensely popular coach a few years ago. I would add NIL and transfer issues, but TCU, a similar program seems to be competing nicely.

It all comes down to simple economics. Less success with a coach, team, and program that nobody recognizes anymore and combine that mess with an athletic and marketing department that have deemphasized and relatively ignored the women's game - and this is what you get.

If you re-build it, they will come.

If you don't, expect crickets.

If I may say also, in Mulkey's hey-day, she had a huge fanbase that are now over the age of 65. The problem is that Foster Pavilion is not as fan friendly if you are older, have reconstructed joints, etc.

I have heard a lot of bad feedback on fan experience from that group, and many were loyal to Kim.

Some of you guys are basically saying we made up what we spent? Instead of saying thanks for supporting Coach N and the ladies on long-distance trip to Waco for WBB game, some of you are questioning & challenging what we spent. We made an enjoyable 3-day trip and visited family/friends too. I think the subject brought up above was about showing up to a game and supporting Coach N and the team, which we have done our part for 30 years. We have gone to many games (home and away) since 1990s with 3 different head coaches and continue to attend games, and financially support the team no matter who is the head coach or players on the team.

The shame in this is really carried by you. How telling and arrogant of you who get on this free sports blog site and berate other fans on what/where they should spend their time and money. This is America. Like you, fans are entitled to spend their time and money on what's most important to them. That's it. Get over yourself........you're no more important or special than anyone else for attending (or not attending) Baylor Women's Basketball games.

Im stating that it SHOULDN'T cost that much at all, but if you're going to complain about it then you should probably find cheaper ways. From what I understand… you chose to spend that much.

Its great that you came and supported the team, but writing out the expenses you CHOSE to pay, when there are cheaper options was what I replied to.

First of all, I was not responding to you, I was responding to "longtimebear" who said: "for those who claim to be Baylor fans and supporters, prove it." I wasn't complaining about anything, it was all about being as devoted and supportive to Coach N and the team as Baylor fans. Our favorite team is WBB so we will do whatever we can to show our support. We travel out of state and spend 3 days in Waco and enjoy our family/friends and university while we are there. We are unable to drive long distance so we fly directly to Waco. We spend those amounts of $$, because we have medical issues, diet restrictions, etc. We do this because we love our WBB program and spend time enjoying Baylor and Waco. Just like "longtimebear" said, we would love to attend more often if we could.

This portrays a reality for many of us, including those of us who still support the program. There are gains with the Foster and there are lossesand some losses have had effect on a specific element of the WBB fan base.

the old saw "winning cures all ills" seems to apply here. watching from afar, it seems baylor is suffering from mulkey hangover. she was/is a very fine coach, amongst the best in the business, ever. naturally, replacing that with this is difficult even with the departure of texas.

k-state has a very good wbb team this year but probably averaging <4,000 per game. i expect that to improve as conference play begins. but it's still wbb compared to mbb and the latter is just more interesting to most, not me.

conclusion, i'm not sure baylor is different than any other wbb program. great teams draw. average don't.

You're hearing wrong. Not 1 sell out this year; averaging a little over 10K in a 13K arena. And that's announced attendance, actual butts in seats is lower.

He is not hearing wrong. I've been to three of their games this year and the attendance has constantly been between 9,500 to 12,000. It's like a madhouse in there. When all you can see are a few empty rows in the top of the nose bleed section you know you have a crowd,

I've watched Baylor for over 25 years and they may be the nations worst at announcing the correct attendance at a game. Of course they always say the seats were sold but half the folks just didn't show up. I quit buying that a long time ago.

I'm sorry that every time somebody mentions anything that casts a positive light toward the previous coach that you get so triggered. Like you did with me in the Mulkey post yesterday. I mean, do you go to the games yourself? If so why don't we exchange numbers and meet up and become friends. You might find me to be a little more reasonable than you think, and perhaps the same would work for me,. I'm always there, so whaddya say, I'll even buy you a hamburger.

I started going to games in the 80's sometime (85?), bought season tickets in 97/98 when Hogg started turning the program around, kept them thru the majority of the Mulkey years, but then I started to get priced out so I just went half the time or less. Now the tiny arena money grab has just about finished me off, I go to a few here & there. I'm still a Baylor guy and really like the ladies team; I support the coach & the players and hope they continue to win far more than they lose.

For something to continue, it has to have started. What's started in the last two seasons is tying for 4th in the Big 12. Is that what you mean?
