I am a long time fan / Baylor grad living in KCMO and since the inception of the Big 12 have taken almost every chance available when Baylor WBB is in the KC area. The highlight of course is the Big 12 tournament, and because of the venue and low attendance during Baylor games (unless ISU or KSU) we almost always get primo seats. This leads to great viewing of the games but honestly, what I enjoy the most is watching the players and Coaches interacting with each other. First of all, I love that the "injured players" have been traveling with the team and are the biggest cheer leaders and helpers, be it Madison with a whiteboard or Buggs & Jana being the first on the floor at a time out to pump up the ones coming off the floor. With the injuries (& foul trouble ) leading to the eclectic mix of players , watching the support of the group is fantastic. I remember Sophia Young so clearly as a player on the 2005 National Championship team , her spark and enthusiasm as a coach is so evident. And of course Coach Nicki, watching her interacting with Abraham when she comes off the floor, giving her the encouragement as she finds her way with her floor moments. I think what I'd say is the biggest noticeable "Collen era" feature is at the game's end, at the playing of the Baylor line, ALL the players and coaches are out there "paws up" singing and clapping towards the fans. I'm not trying to dog on the Mulkey era, please don't take this as that, it's just something I always I observed was the actions during the "Good ol Baylor Line." I'm a softy, and perhaps it's that being here in KC, I don't get many chances to put my hand up and sing.
Todays game is sure to be a slugfest and there are a really significant number of TCU fans here so it will be interesting to see who the ISU crowd is for (they're are still here) - I'm betting it's Baylor.
And I think the city / venue turns out a good fan experience, it's of course warm up for the Men's tournament (people are MBB crazy here), so the TMobile arena Big 12 do a nice job. We have chamber of commerce weather this weekend too.
