I am too but I don't know who would Tennessee go get though. None of the bigger coaches would leave to go to Tennessee. Even Kara Lawson passed them up last time it was open at Tennessee.
This is what I have been trying to get across ever since KM left and why I think we have weathered the storm as well as any team that lost their HOF coach, perhaps better than any other considering how that coach was lost. Could we have done better than CNC? I don't know, perhaps so, but there is no way to know, but we could have done a heck of a lot worse.
People were down on the program from the get-go for a variety of reasons, mostly emotional, which did nothing than just set the program further back than it had to be after being thrown into the ditch by the sudden departure leaving a shell of a full roster. Had the situation been objectively realized the first few years and the team, meaning the players, who stayed been supported as they should have been (they were in shock just like the rest of us), we might be further along to a better recovery than we are now.
And how many still do not understand the obstacles we face that we didn't face before. It would have been tough to maintain and reach the heights we once took for granted even with KM still here, once OUT left leaving us in a relatively really poor conference and money being thrown around by the big state schools as it is today.
The programs that were once below us have benefited by being able to improve their rosters because of the portal, not having to depend on years of lucky recruiting and development, and as such, at least become competitive. As the KSU coach stated the other day, the floor has risen. The patsies are no longer patsies and the money has allowed overall better talented rosters to provide roadblocks for teams such as Baylor to not just roll over people as we once did. Tennessee had far more success than Baylor ever had, yet they too are still struggling.
I'd like to be further along, just like everyone else, but I can't sit here and ***** and moan about every fault. We have not been getting the level of players we once enjoyed, but in reality we probably will never get enough of those unless something far greater than whoever is standing on the sidelines changes to put us back on at least a level playing field with the teams we see at the top of the AP rankings.
We have stayed in the mix for a conference championship and until that big change mentioned above comes about, if it ever does, we should at least appreciate being in that position and provide support to the players that have chosen to come to Baylor and are trying to do their best to compete at the highest level their talents allow.
I'm out. Looking forward to the next game and post season.
