These two don't seem to like each other.

Yes, she was. I believe it was for just one season.Valkyrie said:

Kim maintains that was directed at an Austin TX sports writer, not at the Texas Coach.chorne68 said:

Who am I to question KM, but I thought instead of getting upset about that she should've just shrugged it off as a form of a back-handed compliment - as in my opponent obviously feels that even against our bench she has to have her starters in there to be competitive in a game that's already been decided - and let it go at that. Just not worth getting upset about.Arkie4BU said:

I agree this is where it began.

1. Thank you, Texas and Baylor women's basketball. You've given us an intriguing, colorful, new rivalry. Their sensational game Monday night at the Erwin Center reminded us how much we are entertained by a gritty, emotional hatefest between two terrific teams. Kim Mulkey coaches like her hair is on fire or like she wants to light referees' hair on fire and speaks the same way, chastising probably phantom critics. After her Lady Bears beat the Longhorns 70-67 in a thriller to gain sole place of first place in the Big 12, Mulkey wagged her finger at "everyone (who) wanted to say we were stale food, there's a new sheriff in town." Baylor still has the badge on its chest, but Texas coach Karen Aston was not amused and said, "I'm well aware that we've got to talk about sheriffs and all kinds of crap, but I thought we played really hard and we just didn't win," Aston said. Translation: Aston was boiling over the loss and Mulkey's response in complaining about Aston's players flopping to get calls. Plus, Mulkey was smug in bragging on the atmosphere but talking about $5 tickets and saying, "You don't give away something. You've got a good product on the floor, you don't sell it cheap. I guess you got to do what you need to do to get 'em in the stands." Keep it up, Kim. And keep restocking your lineup, Karen, who will add two all-star recruits to have nine yes, nine McDonald's All-Americans on next year's roster. It would help if talented freshman Joyner Holmes would find her way to the basket instead of settling for jump shots that she rarely sinks. The Lady Bears made a living in the paint with 36 points there. Yes, Baylor's still the sheriff, but Texas may be deputized soon. When's Round 3?

Cherry Cola has done the same thing at least two times as I recall. Once here in Waco I remember how she came up off the bench like she had coil springs under her and hastened her starters to get back in when she saw Kim putting in the 2nd string.CNC said:
Does anyone remember when the hate began?
I want to say, years ago, BU was way up on UT in Austin. Mulkey pulls everyone, puts in freshman for the final few minutes. Aston puts in all of her starters who put on a full court press, force turnovers, and start shooting threes. All of this in an effort ot make the score look better (closer) in the newspaper. Mulkey called her out on it.

Unnecessarily pressing in a lost game doesn't do anything but put the players on the court at risk of injury. We've had players throughout Kim's years who have had knee injuries in high school, while at Baylor, or both. I'm sure most college coaches have had similar experiences. If this nonsense Aston pulls at the end of games ever resulted in an injury, the post-game handshake make turn into an impromptu MMA match.3rdgenbear said:
Running the press and subbing a player at 1.9 seconds to go and down by 6 doesn't do much to mend the fence. It's senseless. I think KA would like to get on Kim's nerves. Instead, it just makes KA look bad...again.
