No hire is going to make you happy unless it's bringing Mulkey back so your point is moot.

Re-invent Mulkey with Molly.

Some of these other names are very "meh."

Totally agree, a lot of similarities to Mulkey, most significantly, IMO, her focus on defense. However, it's not really "rolling the dice," she has an almost unbelievable winning percentage as a college head coach (90+%) as reported by this site.

Her win percentage is damn impressive. To do that at D2 tells me you can coach and recruit.

She's firey and competitive. She's going to be a top coach sooner rather than later.

Her, Joni Taylor or Messer.

Zero interest in the UCLA coach.

No reason to re-invent. Her biography, and game philosophy are nearly identical. Only difference would be that Molly has HC experience, which Mulkey didn't when hired. Not that it is relevant, but interestingly, she favors Mulkey in appearance at the same age.

I mean, come on....and those attendance numbers, Div2 to draw like that? MR won't hire her...but dang

"Molly is a rising star," Women's Basketball Coaches Association Executive Director Danielle Donehew said after her peers named Miller the Division II Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Miller's teams defend with the intensity and trapping was her trademark as a player. The Panthers have guarded opponents from baseline to baseline while running a player-predicated motion offense that averaged 90.2 points per game this season. The entertaining style and success have made Drury one of the top Division II draws, ranking third in attendance last season at 1,768 fans per game despite only have 1,500 undergraduate students on campus and competing for Ozarks basketball fans with Missouri State."

So true...top 5 job...great attendance...financial support. This thought on...let's get an up and comer seems so ridiculous.

look her up, she isnt a roll of the dice... she dominated in Div 2 where there is alot more equality among the players talent. She can coach...

Can she recruit D 1 to play at Baylor? I would say that would also be a yes but that is the only risk. We can try and get her now or fight for championships against her in a few years when another P5 school picks her up.

The upside is tremendous, the risk is manageable

With regard to Molly Miller, think of it in these terms...

Scott Drew had one year of D1 head coaching experience when BU hired him, so does Miller.

Scott Drew had one year of head coaching experience at any level when BU hired him, Miller has 7 years experience, including a DII career during which she made the NCAA tournament every single year, won no less than 26 games in any year, never finished lower ranked than #14 in the nation (top 10 in 5 of 6 years), won the conference regular season title every year and went undefeated and won the NC her final season at Drury.

Scott Drew inherited a program mired in a miserable, scandalous condition with a depleted roster that required him to roam the campus looking for warm bodies. Miller would inherit a dynastic program with unbroken success at the highest level and top talent, including the B12 POY.

Scott Drew was a basketball team manager and played a little tennis in college. Miller was a three-time all conference player and MVP who led her team to 4 NCAA tournament appearances and a 112-18 record, was a three-time all-state player in HS, and led her team to 2 state championships and a record of 110-9 over four years.

Scott Drew went 20-11 (.645) in his first year as a D1 head coach (Valpo went 25-8 the previous year). Miller went 18-7 (.720) in her first year as a D1 head coach (GCU went 15-12 the previous year).

Brenda Frese
Cori Close

Are all better hires and more established coaches than Molly Miller at this time. Sytia is probably a safer hire at this time as well.

Total agreement here. Seems almost obvious she is a good recruiter - she has recruited quality players to play at the D2 level...either that, or she's an even better coach by taking sub-par players to a 90% winning percentage, just saying.

I agree, MR isn't going to consider her. However, I'd bet the house that her name has come up. He wouldn't be doing his due diligence if it hasn't.

Just from what I have read, it is certainly possible that she could become the next Mulkey. However if she was to be hired there is one question, IMO, that would have to be answered in the positive in order to prevent a monumental setback to the program. Could she keep the current team? In other words, would the current players trust what is left of their careers to someone who has no real D1 experience? And sure, she might have some players transfer with her, but low D1 or D2 players are such for a reason. They would nowhere be even Big XII ready, much less even top 25 ready.

People here have done research on her. The general public has not. I suspect that most high school recruits have never heard of her, as well. And as such, could just write her and Baylor off out of hand if she has to start here with a depleted roster, a bunch of picked over players out of the transfer portal, and ends up with a poor record next season.

She may well be a great coach in a few years somewhere, but it is a gamble to say the least. Now, on the other hand getting an established coach can also risk landing in the Goestenkors situation that Texas suffered. Obviously no guarantees regardless of which direction you go. But I believe regardless of who you get, if the current team doesn't buy in and stay pretty much intact, we are going to see a setback of at least 3 years, if not longer.

While even getting an established coach, some or many of our players still might transfer, but the established coach at least has a track record for pulling in recruits or transfers. A new D1 coach does not have that track record and losing the ones we already have could be too deep a hole from which to dig out of in a reasonable time frame.

I don't think you can go ask players to OK your hire before you make it, but you better somehow have a good idea of how they will react.

I get following the coaches and the team but BU's president seems odd unless something is going on.

Concerning player retention vs HC hire...specially a Molly Miller hire. I can't help but believe, if our players wait to meet with her before making a decision....She will win them over.

I for one think Sandy Brondello is the absolute homerun hire that we should make if possible. However, if it had to be an up and comer with no real experience on this level, I could definitely be sold on Molly Miller. That said, I don't believe the Baylor program (given their pedigree and resources) should be rolling the dice on an unproved coach (for this level). This hire is very important, it could be the difference between staying among the elite or falling back to the pack.

I agree.
Baylor is one of the top programs in the country. Im not sure it should be some type of proving ground for a D2 coach. I'd be more comfortable with a power 5 D1 coach who has had success recruiting D1 players
