In terms of average pressure per batter, you can't get much higher than today. Only 2 at bats the entire game where the score wasn't within a run. Literally any pitch could change the whole game. Both teams using their hall-of-fame caliber aces in relief and multiple innings from both closers. I couldn't sit still for a minute at work.

Gammons must not have seen the 16 inning game vs. the Mets in the 1986 NLCS or the 17 inning comeback against the Braves in the 2005 NLDS.
18 inning vs. the Braves, but I think he meant "in person". And he's been to a lot of games in person.

Completely agree. Can't wait for the ALCS.

I think I underestimated how much winning a Division Series would mean to everyone. The fans, the organization, the players. This is significant.

Those came to mind, but I'm not sure those were necessarily "good" games. Kinda like the 2012 BU-WVU football game, exciting but not really that good, just my $.02

Now that makes me weep
In the last few years, almost all MLB postseason games in the last 40 years have been added to YouTube. I've gone back to watch the 1980 and 1986 Astros games, as I was too young to experience those live.

I will admit that today's game felt like the crazy Games 4 and 5 of the 1980 NLCS between the Astros and the Pete Rose/Mike Schmidt/Steve Carlton/Tug McGraw Phillies. Those games were extremely weird with wild swings in win expectancy. Unlike those, I'm glad this one ended in Houston's favor.

Check out today's win expectancy chart. The Astros were over 60% favorites early, then the Red Sox were 60% favorites, then the Astros again, then the Red Sox again (up to 78% favorites), then the Astros again to stay.

Thanks, I always love to see those kind of charts.

It's been twelve years since the Astros won a division series. Fans are hungry.

While I didn't like it at the time, I now think bringing in Verlander gave the rest of the team the focus to finish the job today and not subconsciously fall back on the thought of a game five at home. The look on Verlander's face when Bregman hit that game-tying shot said "we got this," and they did.

They are such a fun team to watch as so many of them just look like they are having a blast playing the game.

Great game! Got to listen to most of it on the radio at work.

I snagged tickets to the 2nd and 4th game in Houston for the ALCS. Hoping the Yankees can complete the comeback and beat the Indians. That would put me with Game 2 and Game 7 (both Saturdays). If the Indians take the series then all I got is Game 4 on a Tuesday. At least I will be at one game regardless.

Now that the Red Sox have been tossed in the laundry, any opinions on who the Astros match up better against for the ALCS?

I'd say the Yankees. They were saying that the Indians' pitching staff would give us the most trouble. For some reason, I'm not worried about the Yankees. lol. I hope they beat the Indians.

Id only be slightly more worried about the racists. Yankees , if they are able to eek it out, dont have the arms to handle this lineup of brutalizing bats we have.

From a baseball standpoint, I'd put the odds of the Astros beating the Yankees or the Indians at a neutral site about the same. So that being said, give me the team that gives the Astros home field advantage and weekend home games. Go Yankees (tomorrow only).

Indians beat us up head to head, but that was before we really got things rolling.... but that 22 game win streak tells you how good they are....

I'll take the Yanks and 4 at home over Knockahoma and 4 on the road

The Indians threw Kluber twice, beat Mike Fiers twice and also beat Joe Musgrove when he was a starter. The one game Houston pitched Keuchel, the Astros won it. Those regular season results just don't apply.

And isn't Nocahoma the Braves guy? Chief Wahoo's brother I think.

Nice to meet you too. I actually had forgotten about meeting up with you (work was nuts last week) and was so confused when you asked "Are you a Baylor Fan?". All I could think was, how does he know? I have all Astros stuff on. Then it clicked. Haha. Glad you came by and I got to put a face with a name.

Where are your game 7 seats? Mine are in 419. Hopefully, we take the series before Game 7.

I want the Yankees. They aren't as good of a team as the Indians first of all, but I am thinking if we win a World Series this year it would be pretty great to do it by knocking out the Red Sox, Yankees, and then hopefully the Dodgers. Basically, just defeat the baseball blue bloods if you will along the way.

Mine are in Section 411, row 9. I'm looking into Subhub possibilities for Games 1 and 2, and my father in law will have his seats again to one of the games.
