Well this is ugly.
makes me wish we'd just put a position player on the mound when we end up giving up that many runs

Yea, we made it to 2 runs with 2 out in the 9th. Now down by only nine runs

Some days it seems you can't miss.

Some days it seems you can't win.

Kemp swings wildly to end the game, losing 2-11 to the Irving Swindlers

Too funny Lawrence. I guess we'll have to wait to maybe see in interleague play.

Astros land the 2017 gold glove catcher from the Angels...

I can't complain. All we gave up was a Single A pitching prospect? Basically, a modern day Ausmus. Can't hit but is a heck of a defensive catcher. Gonna make it even harder to score on us.
I knew the Pitchers weren't happy with Stassi behind the plate.... too many wrong signals and passed balls.... and lately his hitting hasn't made him worth it.... McCann is out for at least another month, and at his age, there is no guarantee how good he will be coming back.... so, good move
This trade wasn't due to Stassi. It was due to Federowicz.
you are probably right.... you are a pretty objective poster, so I respect your opinion.... Like Gold said, this is only off of my own observations.... but I've been playing and watching baseball for the last 50 years, coaching at the High School level for 32....

And I don't dislike Stassi.... he seems like a really good kid.... on May 30 when he hit his 4th homer and was batting .303, I loved him.... the platoon with him and McCann seemed like a great deal... but since he has been forced into the starting roll, a few warts have shown up....

He's had 2 more HRs in all of June and July, and his avg has dropped by 60 points... He isn't a good receiver.... Not horrible mind you, but not great.... we don't get near as many corner calls and way too many decent pitches bounce out of his glove.... several with men on base.... he has only thrown out 25% of base stealers.... He is a solid guy but not great.

With the way he has hit for the last 2 months, getting a young Gold Glove catcher seems like a great upgrade.... and as you said, Fedorawicz is no answer....

on another note, I've been to 15 of my 20 games for this season, and we have seem some great ones.... the blowout of the White Sox from the Diamond Club was a bucketlist item checked off.... the back to back to back by Springer, Bregman and Altuve was absolutely thrilling....

but....

I have also seen us lose 2-0 to the Angels, 1-0 to the Rangers and get 1 hit, 1-0 to the Royals and get 2 hits and yes I was there last night for that shellacking, since two of those shutouts were on Friday nights and when it was 5-0 and we had 1 hit I was seriously thinking it was my fault....

good news is I only have 1 more Friday game left.

For someone with that kind of baseball experience, surely you aren't suggesting that our catching is costing us games.

What I'm saying is that picking up a Young, Gold Glove Winner, who throws out 45% of base stealers and isn't worse offensively than what we have on hand currently is an upgrade....

I'm usually happy about upgrades

Maldonado is a great catcher, I like Stassi at the plate better. Better OBP and BA than Maldonado.

Glad we have these problems. I remember when we had Hank Conger back there...

You don't miss the Conger-bot?

And last night sucked. I hate losing to the Ramgers. Tonight I hope we break out the bats and give it right back to them. Go 'Stros!

agree, but I'd say that the offense is a wash... Max was 26/85 in April and May with a .929 OPS...

in June and July, he is 16/89 that's just under .180 His OPS in June was .618 and in July it's .514

Maldanado has been some better.... .615 for this year and .638 lifetime OPS.... and is a big defensive upgrade.

now we just need to get Correa and Altuve back

After 3 innings in game Two against New York South, the Astros are still scoreless and hitless, with 7 ground ball outs.

Someone get the cables and jump-start the offense, please!

That would be nice, but sheesh, I remember Gattis and Springer and Bregman etc. being able to hit not so long ago.

honestly, with this pitching staff and the experienced lineup we have....

all we have to do is get to the playoffs hot and healthy and it doesn't matter what our 162 game record is... our staff in a short series with 1 or 2 of the starters we have now moving to the pen for a series?

i wouldn't want to face this team
