We were slow on defense. It also wasn't clean defensively. As one example, we bobbled the routine groundball to short in the 10th and almost missed the easy out at second that ended the game. If was especially bad in innings one through four.
Pitching was not great either. A lot of lead off walks in untimely situations.
Offense was the worst though. Yes, I know they had 13ish hits and 9 runs. But we struck out at least a dozen times or close two it. Three times in a row with runners on second and third and nobody out in the 8th any. A fly ball by any of the first two more than likely gives us a two run lead in that situation. A hit more than likely a three run lead. Instead, while one of the next four batters did walk, three of them struck out and we only had a one run lead which led to them being able to tie the game shortly thereafter.
It was my first live game this year and it really just confirms we can do things, but we are just as likely to shoot ourselves in the foot. You just don't know until it happens.
We need to sweep Utah this weekend. Time to try and climb up the Big 12 standings a little before we play TCU.
