Baylor Men’s Tennis Seeded Second in Big 12 Tournament
IRVING, Texas – The Baylor men’s tennis team has been named the second seed in the 2022 Big 12 Championships, set for Apr. 22-24 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center at TCU in Fort Worth.
The Bears (22-3, 4-1 Big 12) will wrap up the regular season with two non-conference midweek matches on Tuesday and Wednesday against Midwestern State and UT Tyler, respectively, before heading to Fort Worth.
BU is 8-3 against nationally-ranked opponents and 3-1 on neutral site courts this season.
TCU earned the top seed after winning the regular-season Big 12 title, with Baylor earning the second seed after finishing as runner-up for the regular season. Texas grabbed the third seed while Texas Tech was named fourth. Rounding out the seeding were Oklahoma at fifth, and Oklahoma State in sixth.
With a first-round bye, BU will play its first match of the tournament in the semifinals on Saturday, against the winner of No. 3 Texas and No. 6 Oklahoma State. The match is set for 3 p.m. on the public courts. With a win, the Bears will advance to Sunday’s final, set to begin at 4 p.m.
The Red Raiders and Sooners start the action off on Friday at 3 p.m. CT on the Public Courts while the Longhorns and Cowboys square off simultaneously on the Varsity Courts. The Horned Frogs await the winner of the TTU/OU matchup for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday.
Baylor was the No. 2 seed in the 2021 Big 12 Championship before winning it all, downing top-seeded Texas, 4-0, to earn the title.
Baylor has had five 20-plus win seasons in the past six years, the lone outlier being the 13-win season for the Bears in the shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19. Second-year head coach Michael Woodson has amassed a 56-8 overall record and an 8-2 record in Big 12 play.
