I'm not carrying water for the "it does nothing" or "causes more illness" crowd. I've said as such and acknowledge the impact to prevention of severe COVID. I am however against this on the fly, not reviewed, statistical hodgepodge that keeps getting thrown out there with these studies, and data analysis with real flaws in the foundations and interpretation. We don't need a vaccine to function as a treatment for COVID, it needs to be a preventer of COVID, and it is proving more and more not to be, and more like the flu vaccine, which only has to deal with 4 strains. For some reason there's this desire to prop it up as such, and it is impacting policy and funding for the development of treatments.

My concern is the mRNA vaccine approach focusing on spike proteins vs say a traditional antigen vaccine (live attenuated) against a highly adaptable and infectious virus means we will never be able to boost ourselves enough for actual protection. We'll constantly need updates to mRNA sequences to keep up with mutations. The flu vaccine is only moderately effective (or worse) and it only has 4 strains to keep up with. This is why a vaccine evaluation takes years, especially for a novel virus that is still unknown for its own behavior.

Sure, we can always do what that last sentence suggests. But that is simply not practical, logistically speaking. By the time the next variant is spotted, vaxxes ginned up, shipped out, and meaningful parts of the population are vaxxed......the wave will already be past. Such an approach is chasing one's tail.

Which brings us back to the Barrington Declaration. Use the vaxxes to protect the vulnerable, and let the young & healthy gain true herd immunity the old fashioned way. It's the only practical solution.
