You should be quoting more from General Mark Hertling than Col Macgregor.
MacGregor looks and sounds like someone who is pissed he didn't get his star... Now, we see the character flaw that probably prevented promotion to Brigadier and passed over...
He's just saying publicly what many of them are saying privately.

He isn't and they aren't.

The American Conservative is run by people who literally facilitated Russian intelligence activities in the U.S. One of the editors and commentators (who may be quoted in this thread) barely missed getting charged with espionage.

No one was charged with espionage because no espionage took place. Even the Russian woman at the center of the case was only charged with failing to register as a foreign agent. The left famously used the incident to attack 2nd Amendment rights by smearing the NRA. Now you're using it to smear and attack a good magazine for exercising 1st Amendment rights. You should be ashamed.

Neither does Col. MacGregor on most days.
No, I mean Pekka literally doesn't know the difference. He accuses Macgregor of lying for saying things like "the US should stay out of the conflict" (obviously an opinion).

Macgregor should be ashamed. He's a Russian shill. Just top of head here:

Here praised Russia's 2014 Ukraine invasion and even went on Russian State tv.
He said Ukraine should let Russia have the entire country.
He said Ukrainians "are just Russians." And the population is "indistinguishable" from Russians.
Claimed "strong majority" of Eastern Ukraine are Russian.
Called Zelensky a puppet (one of Putin's favorite terms) and repeatedly refers to Puppet Regime.
Still refers to Ukraine as the Neo Nazi junta. (Putin propaganda)
Predicted Ukraine would be overrun in 24-72 hours. Then predicted weeks, then months. And has repeatedly said they're in the "final phase."
Repeatedly has said Russia is "crushing" Ukraine - (another favorite Putin term.)
Repeatedly stated that Russia is being careful to protect women and children and preserve infrastructure.
Argued against Russian sanctions, saying they would help Russia and hurt us.
Repeatedly claimed Ukraine's "Best soldiers are dead" - "hundreds of thousands of their best."
Repeatedly claims Ukraine is out of ammo.
Repeatedly claims the U.S. now has broad ammo shortages.
Long been opposed to NATO

Precisely. He's an absolute clown and should be viewed as such. As opposed to General Hertling who was the head of European Command and has been part of or witnessed dozens of joint training sessions with both Ukrainian and Russian troops over the years, and said from the jump that if Ukraine could garner western support, they could not only defend their country but could very well likely outright win a war with Russia. Mostly because they are bought in on American/Western ideals of Improvise/Adapt/Overcome, whereas the Russian military is hellbent on top down structure that prevents underlings from accomplishing anything if their superiors are KIA. Russia has lost almost as many officers in 14 months as the US lost total soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan over 20 years.

Largely agree, but I do fear Hertling has been a bit too bullish on inevitable Ukraine victory. I certainly hope he's right though.

I can't speak to his other statements....but racially Ukrainians, Russians, and Belarusians are all indistinguishable from each other. That is one of the reasons, along with many others, that this war is so tragic.

They are all Eastern Slavs...same religion, same ancestry, and almost identical languages.

Same as how Germans and Austrians are indistinguishable from each other.

Or English descended people in Canada, Utah, Vermont, or Australia are indistinguishable.

Or Han in China, Taiwan, or Singapore are indistinguishable.

Or Norwegians, Icelanders, and Swedish people are indistinguishable.

The differences between them are nationalistic-political and not racial-cultural-religious.

To the extent that it's relevant, most of that stuff is true. Russia started out being careful of civilians and infrastructure. That changed over time, as I predicted. Ukraine is short on troops and ammo. Even the prediction of a swift Russian victory is understandable, since everyone expected it at the time. That's why we withdrew our personnel ahead of the invasion and only went back to assist the Ukrainians after we saw what they could do. This was an opportunistic venture on our part, and nothing more.

Yep, I don't think Russia was that careful of civilians but they did certainly try to mimic the American style fighting with light troop numbers, mobile armored forces, selective missile strikes, and quick strike deployment to get to Kyiv and overthrow the government...and they completely failed because of incompetence.

So now they are trying to do what they did in Chechnya....destroy everything in their path with conscript troops and artillery.

Of course it took them two wars to pacify Chechnya (New Jersey size area with 2 million people)...they will fail trying to do that to Ukraine.

Ukraine has enough ammo, materials, weapons, etc.....and they are getting more from the USA-EU everyday.

Its manpower that is gonna hurt them in trying to retake Crimea or Donbas.

Exactly none of this is true.

Russia was never careful, and besides, Macgregor continued making this comment long after the initial invasion. There were arguments that Russia should have sent more forces, but they bombed indiscriminately from the start and also attacked infrastructure.

As for ammo (Ukraine and U.S.) Macgregor has talked in general and as to basic ammo, which has always been BS.

Not even close to "everyone" expected Ukraine to fold quickly. But worse, Macgregor doubled and tripled down and continued predicting swift Russian total victory.

Macgregor is a clown. There are two possibilities. He's either stupid or he's a Russian pawn.

Being half Serbian, I'm well aware of the ethnicities. That is not what Macgregor has repeatedly referred to. He's made the comments in support of Russia taking over Ukraine - as in, because Ukraine is basically Russian, Russia has the right to invade and take over. He's making Putin's argument - that Ukraine isn't a country, has no rights, and its people should be Russian.

No, they did not bomb indiscriminately from the start. I don't know how Macgregor defines "final phase" or "total victory," if those are the words he used. He has said Russia will establish victory on its own terms, which in some sense it undoubtedly will. As for his being a clown, even Pekka acknowledges his credentials and accomplishments. No, his sins in my view are being (1) consistently pro-Russian (fact), and (2) dead wrong on Russia issues (fact). I've said and posted since Russia first invaded, I totally understand views contrary to my own. But, why lie or use Putin's propaganda? If you have pure motives, there is no need.

And, it's amazing how little research some of y'all do. Russia started hitting civilian targets immediately, and by mid-March was leveling infrastructure and bigger civilian targets throughout Ukraine.

Doc's framing of the quote is a lie. Biden said sending tanks or planes "with American pilots and American crews" would be World War 3.
False. He has said that the US will not send F16s to Ukraine on multiple occasions. Nothing about with Americans in them. Just that the US would not send the equipment. Same as he said for tanks and then backtracked on.

This is an empirical question with an objective answer, and you are wrong. I didn't use those quotation marks on accident.

This is the entire quote, straight from the NYPost:
"The idea that we're going to send in offensive equipment and have planes and tanks and trains going in with American pilots and American crews just understand, don't kid yourself, no matter what y'all say, that's called World War III"
https://nypost.com/2022/03/11/thats-called-world-war-iii-biden-defends-decision-not-to-send-jets-to-ukraine/
Sorry but you are the one who is wrong. he has been asked this question multiple times and given more than just that one quote.

January 30th 2023 Biden was asked if the US would be sending f16s to Ukraine. His answer was one word. No.

Nothing else. just NO.

February 24th he said "He doesn't need F16s now." There is no basis upon which there is a rationale, according to our military, now, to provide F-16s," Biden said.

You are using one quote from one day to try to prove your point and ignoring all the other times he has said he would not send F16s.

He has said it. Look it up.

You are the one who is wrong.

The fact of the matter is....the US isn't sending the F-16's they're about to get. They are coming from stockpiles of other nations who are in the process of buying American F-35's. We just allowed our NATO partners to trade the F-16's they do own already rather than continue to limit that capability.

I've done the research and posted about it. It doesn't matter. People believe what they want to believe. Russia limited civilian damage at first because they expected a short operation and a warm welcome. They believed their own propaganda, just like you do yours. Short version: Pekka Kallioniemi (whoever that is) doesn't know the difference between fact and opinion.
That may be so, but you DON'T say those things publicly. That is the personality flaw, either sour grapes and he is trying to make the Pentagon look bad OR he has a need for everyone to know he is the "smartest". Either way, not a good thing.

With the successes he had, it is telling he retired a COL. Something is not right there. The Battle of Eastling is taught at West Point and military training grounds around the world, that SHOULD be a career maker. His thoughts on the Marines and Airborne are the innovative discussions that should have gotten him in charge of a re-vamping program with his Gulf War and Serbia expereience. Yet, he retires as a COL and is on Russian TV? Something doesn't add up.

To the extent that it's relevant, most of that stuff is true. Russia started out being careful of civilians and infrastructure. That changed over time, as I predicted. Ukraine is short on troops and ammo. Even the prediction of a swift Russian victory is understandable, since everyone expected it at the time. That's why we withdrew our personnel ahead of the invasion and only went back to assist the Ukrainians after we saw what they could do. This was an opportunistic venture on our part, and nothing more.

His real sin seems to be holding opinions that don't support the pro-war agenda.

I don't think it's possible to analyze the situation fairly without being accused of lying or using someone's propaganda. There's always going to be information that's useful to one side and unwelcome to the other side.

There are always civilian casualties, but Russia didn't systematically target civilians or civilian infrastructure until it became clear that they were in a long war of attrition.
You mean like 3 weeks into the ordeal when they were slaughtering people in Bucha?
The fact that you cite Bucha every time should tell you something.
They really helped those folks in Mariupol out as well...
And the Zaporzhizia Power Plant
and...and....and...

Dude, there has been no effort whatsoever to limit civilians or civilian infrastructure.

"Don't bomb here, bomb shelter with 500+ women and children in it painted out front in Mariupol!!!"

Bombed.

You're as big a clown as MacGregor.
I've done the research and posted about it. It doesn't matter. People believe what they want to believe. Russia limited civilian damage at first because they expected a short operation and a warm welcome. They believed their own propaganda, just like you do yours. Only difference is that they know better now.
As in, you've run to the American Conservative and copy/pasted. I've spent about an hour per day for 15 months reading every end of this ordeal. I'm quite positive I'm more well-versed than you in what is good info and what is crap.

Short version: Pekka Kallioniemi (whoever that is) doesn't know the difference between fact and opinion.

I know people who retired as colonels. I don't think it's any disgrace.

Two massive military failures over the past 20 years and a humiliating blunder of a withdraw (slap stick retreat) from Kabul show that the Pentagon paper pushers can do that themselves.

There is a reason faith in the military has plummeted in this country over past several years.

[The annual survey which asks Americans their level of trust and confidence in a variety of government institutions showed a 70 percent approval rate for the military in 2017, but that dropped dramatically over the next five years, reaching a low of 45 percent in 2021.

Missing my point, he shouldn't have with his resume. He is also on Russian TV, I don't know many doing that.

His credentials for being the "expert" should have been enough to get him to BG, especially being a "innovative" thinker at a time we were fighting a insurgent type enemy that required outside the box thinking.

No, COL is a great career. This one is touting credentials that should have been enough to avoid pass-over.
