Four schools comprise Sunni jurisprudence: Hanafi, Shafii, Maliki, and Hanbali, the latter spawning the Wahhabi and Salafi movements in Saudi Arabia. Sunnism, a broad umbrella term for non-Shia Islam, is united on the importance of the Quran and practice of Mohammed but allows for differences in legal opinion.

As do nearly all novice western observers of islam, you make so many errors in a single statement, explicit and implied, that it's hard to know where to start. There is no real "theological" debate within islam comparable to what we see in Christianity about the meanings of things. Even the Sunni-Shia division (the true schism in the faith which you did not cite) is not about theology. It's about the succession struggle for Caliph, who would follow Ali (#4) which culminated at the battle of Karbala in 680 (in favor of the Sunnis). Sunnis believe the Caliph should be the most capable man (chosen), while Shia believe the Caliph must be a blood relative of Muhammand (birthright). That, in practice, means in Sunni islam, the political leaders select the clergy, while in Shia islam, the clergy selects the political leaders. In pure theological terms there are no substantive debates comparable to what we see in Christianity. There is less theological difference between Sunni-Shia than there is between Catholic/Protestant. And of course within Sunni islam, the debates are even narrower, being largely restricted to jurisprudence (as your link notes) rather theology - about how to interpret the Koran for the enforcement of sharia. Enforcement of sharia, you see, IS the purpose of social contact in islamic society.
Below is a screenshot of a slide from one of my presentations on islam. It illustrates the type of "great debate" that occurs within islam, on a topic relevant to this thread.
Even between the four schools, there is no disagreement on jurisprudence until the fourth level of reference. All agree that the precedence is Koran, Hadith, Sunnah......at that point, they start diverging on where to look for guidance. The Umayyids, for example, promoted the Maliki School, which at the fourth level of reference looks to the practices of the peoples of Medina in the lifetime of Muhammad (because Muhammad stated that Medina was the place where the purest form of islam was practiced). The Ottomans followed the Hanafi School (Ottoman), the most "moderate" of the four in that the 7th level of reference allowed for local customs to influence the imam's decisions. Of note, all the "schools" refer to 8th-9th century scholars. There are obvious inferences to make about that, all of which show how narrow and tight are the parameters of "theology" in islam.
